265 bhp.
Shame we won't get it, but we will get the Golf R (see Galaxy's thread). I love the look of this thing.

265 through the front wheels, eh?  Hopefully it's lighter than the Focus RS.

Last I heard it was FWD.  It's better that way anyway.

It has XDS electronic diff, which eliminates most understeer, and torque steer is minimal.

Yes. Lighter and cheaper is a good thing. Now bring the goddamn thing over here.  :rage:

Galaxy

The Golf R is AWD, the Scirocco FWD.

i think we are getting the better of the duo with the golf R

America is getting the shaft again. But then again VW knows that you can buy a used Corvette ZO6 for the same (or less) amount of money and that car is RWD, has a V8 and does 0-60 in a ridiculously fast time. You can also get a Camry V6 or an Accord V6 which are insanely fast so I can understand why VW isn't bringing over the Scirocco...  :hammerhead:  :hammerhead:  :hammerhead:

I imagine it has the same 2.0T from the TTS. Looks good

265 through the front wheels isn't bad if it's delivered properly.

Why do you guys think that FWD can only handle 2HP!?

Anyways, I think this car looks great.

2:1 the Scirocco R is faster around a track and handles better.  I mean, come on, the JDM Civic Type R is about as fast as an NSX around most tracks.  FWD isn't the handicap you people think it is.

I agree.  The Focus RS has 300 hp and FWD, the Cobalt SS Turbo goes around the Ring in an insanely fast time that beats most RWD production cars.  If done right, FWD can handle a lot of power.

I don't really care how fast something gets around a track. I care about how it feels while doing it. And I don't care for the feel of FWD.

With that said, I'd throw a leg over a rampaging NSX, but call 911 about a Civic.

Payman:  Certainly a flattering pic--and a great paint color, too.  The very first Scirocco and the very first Esprit actually got me thinking that cars--as opposed to motorcycles and pickups--might actually be worth looking at again.  Esprits were hugely expensive for the day--especially for a Renault engine --so the Scirocco was the import I most desired at the time (but wasn't willing to part with my Datsun minitruck to get).  The later Corrado was nice, too, but didn't stand out from its contemporaries as strikingly as the original Scirocco stood out from its contemporaries.

I hope you can get yourself one of these, PayDude!  For ultra-contemporary styling, this thing is hawt!

Other than the dull understeer and nasty torque steer? I hate any level of torque steer at all.

You've driven FWD cars other than Buicks, right?

Many. Some that are supposed to be sooo wonderful. I still don't like them all that much.
I even had one for 3 years.

How you enter corners, general handling dynamics, and putting power down coming out of an apex are all drastically different.

yea seriously, just like MrH said, they drive so differently, I remember the first time getting into an underpowered RWD car and it felt so different and interesting. Before then I drove decent FWD cars and thought they handled well. But RWD is just a different animal that only matters to people like us.

Yeah, I know there are differences, but I was kind of asking him to articulate what he didn't like about it.  Do remember, half of the cars I've owned have been RWD.  And to top it off, both my FWD cars have been sharper, more responsive, more agile, better handling, and more involving than my RWD sedan.  Of course, none of them could hold a candle to the Boxster, but that's what you get when you have a world class automaker put an engine behind you in a proper sports car.

I just don't get why everyone hates FWD so much.  Yeah, there are FWD cars that handle like shit, but there are RWD cars that handle like shit too.  Why are you people so close-minded?

I understand why FWD is the best for most people. I don't look down at someone who has one. It's just not my thing.

A great handling FWD car is a blast.  I prefer RWD, but I'll be god damned if I don't have an absolute blast every time I hit the twisties with my SVTF.
