I see debadging here all the time too.  It's not just all about hiding what model you got.  Some people just like the clean look.

I pick and choose my badges. Sometimes they all go, sometimes they all stay, sometimes I get rid of a few and keep the rest. It all depends on what looks best. For example, I took the "Rally-Sport" badges off of my Camaro (they went on the front fender, behind the wheel) since it looked cleaner without it. I will probably take the "el-camino" badge off rear fender of my El Camino as well. It's whatever looks best.

I don't think you can get those freakin' awesome seats, and the M style body kit is exclusive to the higher models, isn't it?

No, you can.

Then what in the hell is the point of a $70,000 550i?

Next to a 535i, the only case I can make for it is the V8 rumble. That, and telling people you have a 550i.

First car I ever drove on a highway was my Dad's friend's '06 550i when I was like 15 or so. I'll never forget the sound of that V8.

My ideal E60 is a Jet Black 535i with the M-Sport package, 6MT, Logic7 and heated seats. And probably nav, because that little cubby thing in 5ers without nav bothers me.

They do.

Without nav, there's this little, cheap looking iDrive screen that looks half-assed, and there's a cubby space under the climate controls. On nav models, you get a big, legit iDrive screen, and no little cubby space.

No, my logic for wanting nav is not sound.

More often than not, the base model "luxury" cars don't offer many of the "luxury qualities" and features that the higher end models get.  It's not just the engine that separates a 525i from a 550i.

You can always order the options you want. Most people probably do that anyway since those options mean more to them than what's under the hood.

Let's be realistic here. From a performance perspective a 528i is more than adequate. So is a 520i...

I guess I'll never understand the European mentality, but this sounds ridiculous to me. Why the fuck would I care if some jackhole thinks I'm a douche because I have an E550 instead of an E350? And what kind of jackholes judge people on that in the first place? Sounds like some people need more productive things to do in their spare time.
It's very Canadian too.  We hate success unless it's our own.  Sometimes I hate Canadians.

The next Mustang I get is getting debadged.  I love the clean sleek look of the '05-'09 Mustang with no badges.  The only badge I would leave is the pony in the grille.  Even that would get a black chrome treatment like the 2010 Mustang.

I've been thinking about taking the "Jetta" badge off the back of my car because I think there's too much badging at the back.

That could go both ways. There have got to be TONS of people buy the cheap versions, and don't want the others to know.

From what it sounds like, Europeans tend to be jealous people.

If it's a GT then you'll have holes in the fenders. That is unless you really want them filled and painted and that's going to cost some cash just to not have a badge.

Don't worry. I've driven both. The V6 is better, and that's a fact.

So has my Dad, who almost put down money on a new 3.2.

He, just like many others, has concluded that the 3.2 just isn't worth it. It sounds better (at least at low revs), it's smoother, and you can say you've got a 3.2, but it isn't any quicker, and it's probably less fuel efficient.

So no, it's not better.

EDIT: Not to mention, it makes the car more nose-heavy.

FURTHER EDIT: The 2.0T's also more mod-friendly.

Okay, to sum up my post, 2.0T>3.2

They each have their advantages, but in a lux car like that, all things else being equal, I'd rather have the car smooth and nose-heavy than buzzy and a little more nimble.

Huh?

I could just as easily say that I fit in the good ole' US of A because unlike most European quasi-socialist twats, I'm not afraid to drive a 760i, as opposed to a 750i.

We're proud of our wealth and our ability to earn it here.

And, at the end of the day, an S350 is still an expensive vehicle.  If the owners were really worried about status, they would buy a Ford fiesta diesel and call it a day.
