Chery goes to the Nurburgring

Kind of strange.


Granted, it's not an exactly stock car, but Chery gave their Riich G5 to Lotus, who tuned the suspension and modified the 2.0L turbo powertrain. Stock, it makes 170HP, but I don't know how much it is making now. (Probably around 200HP range, I imagine)


It returned a rather speedy 8:56. I think this is possibly the first Chinese car to actually go around the Nurburgring.

Where in my post did I praise it's looks or fit and finish, or it's reliability? I said it's quick around the Nurburgring, and is possibly the 1st Chinese car to be there.

It's it's first attempt. It's also a FWD midsize sedan with a small Turbo four-cylinder. What do you expect?

Nurburgring tuning is such a gimmick. You could tune a school bus on the Ring. You could tune a crane truck on the Ring.  For sports cars I can see the appeal. However, for something like a Camry, you'd be pretty safe with just slightly upping the spring rate, and really ramping up the low speed damping.

Well shit, why do car companies even hire engineers to do their suspension tuning?  You seem to have the answer, they should just pay you!

What do I expect?  A much faster time, given a full roll cage and suspension help from Lotus.  I thought that was obvious in my first post, but I guess not ....
