Look. This is going nowhere.

I never said the W202 C-Class was better than the E36 3-Series. Never.

I am only pointing out that it was engineered for a different purpose, one different from that of the 3er. The 3er focuses on sport, the W202 on comfort. And don't tell me the E36 3er is "more comfortable", because it isn't. It might be comfortable - but the W202 is more comfortable.

You guys are claiming the W202 "sucked" because it isn't up to par with the 3er in handling. That's not a valid reason to claim that this car is terrible, especially since I have continuously pointed out that it doesn't focus on sport at all. The W202 was completely comfort-oriented. If you wanted sport you could pick the "sport trim" in Europe and get a slightly sportier suspension or you could buy an AMG version, which handled better than the standard models. Very simple.

Lexus ES? Some people don't want a Lexus. They want a Mercedes. And to them the W202 C-Class might have been just what they're looking for. So give me a break with all this bullshit that "everyone will pick the 3-Series because it handles better". The better handling qualities are only valid on a racetrack or when the car is being driven hard on twisty roads. And someone in the day shopping for a W202 C-Class definitely didn't give a damn about top notch handling. If they did they wouldn't buy one. Very fucking simple.

That's the last thing I am going to say here.

Vinsanity

I would maintain that the buyer who cares more about comfort than sportiness is more likely to be better served with a mid-90's Lexus ES than a W202. Unless all they care about is staring at the ornament perched on top of the front of the hood.

Which brand is better depends on the consumer. And that's the reason Lexus or MB cars SELL. People look for certain things in a brand.

Bye!  :hammerhead:

Your comment seems pretty dumb to me.  Car purchases are emotional ones.

Amazing then how you lust after a BMW when an Infiniti is better value. Guess Infiniti must be the better car then.

You'd make a terrible lawyer.

The Infiniti isn't a better car than the BMW. That argument doesn't work for the W202, because most of the other cars in its class WERE better than it was.

Close your eyes for a second, and pretend the W202 had Toyota badges. Now you probably hate it.

At the time of the W202 the only cars focusing on sport where what? The 3-Series and some offering from Infiniti, right? Audi was still finding itself. Lexus had no IS. Volvo and Saab??? I guess the W202 was an interesting choice for those who saw something in the car.

Trust me. Just because you think the car sucks compared to the 3er doesn't mean it did. And don't give me that crap about "people buying it for the badge only" because that statement can apply to any brand.

LOL

Audi found itself, and launched the B5 which was more HQ, and, like the majority of the competition, better than the W202. Lexus had the ES, which is MORE comfortable than the C (since you're pitching that argument too). BMW had the 3, hell, Acura had the TL, which was also more comfortable than the C. You're exaggerating the "comfort" of the C-Class. It's really not any more comfortable than the competition.

Competition: like 5
MB: 0

No, it wasn't an inherently bad car.

It was a pile of dog shit relative to its competitors, however.

the Teuton

So do the more expensive processes used to build this car justify the more expensive cost?

I mean to say this: The A-pillars in the LFA probably cost more to make than the whole tub of a McLaren MC4-12. Does that make it worth it?
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.
