Exactly. I tried it, and no. The problem with the keyboard isn't the steering, though it is a bit awkward, it's the on/off throttle and brake. Therefore, traction control and ABS are needed.

Live For Speed is good enough that you can actually tune the car to be less tail-happy during full-throttle exits (which is all of them if you're using a keyboard). You can put an open differential in the car, as well as tune the suspension stiffness, tire pressure, roll bar strength, etc. There is also an option for ABS. I don't think I'll be competitive with real people this way, but at least it's fun now.

Question:  GT5 is supposed to have tuning like the old gran turismos right?  Prologue doesn't have any tuning.

I loved setting up cars to handle properly.  I used to have an RX-7 that was awesome.  Took forever to get right, but I could lay into the throttle right at the apex, rotate a little, then just take off.  I murdered some much more powerful cars in that thing.

You have to finish all A class races to "unlock" it.  Also Kaz has said you can "modify almost every part of a car imaginable".  If I can find the exact quote I'll post it.

Just started playing the GT5 demo.  Maaan the graphics are insane.

The gameplay itself doesn't seem to be groundbreaking though.  A lot harder than GT4, but I don't know if it's more realistic

Really pounded my ego into the ground.  The most I can muster with the normal car is about 2:00 or about 12 seconds off the fastest guy, and ranked about 9,000.

With the tuned car, I felt like I was getting more out of the car, and got closer to the fastest time (1:45, or about 9 sec off the pace of the fastes).  But, I'm ranked about 13,000 for it.

Anyone else playing it?

Forza 3 has much better sound, but I have to give the nod to GT5 for the graphics.

Personally, graphics wise I think they are close enough. GT has been notorious for having terrible sound since GT3 (GT2 had better sound than the two games that followed). Forza really captured the motor's sound. Plus I think Forza keeps track of tire marks and (in GT4 vs Forza 1) dealt with smoke + dirt clouds better (I don't think there was any in GT4). I personally like GT4's physics the best, but I will have to really dig into Forza 2/3 to make an assessment.

Yesterday I was in Gamestop, and was about 2 seconds away from putting down the $200 on an Xbox + FM3. But I think I will hold off until I'm done applying to grad schools.

I've been playing it.  Really pissed that traction control is on the normal car since I'm using the controller.  I've got a 1:51.4 with the standard car and a 1:38.2 with the tuned car.  I wish my pedals weren't broken.

I'm using the regular controller without traction control

It's mo' fun

Edit:  Just realized it was on and can't turn it off.  Even though it works like crap though.  I thought I had it off when I first played

We need a GT5 demo challenge thread, like the old GT4 thread.

I just started,  I'm all over the place.  1:59 so far. A long way to go.

How do you turn off traction control on the stock car???

You only want 2nd for the hairpins.  Also don't start slowing down on the strait when the light starts flashing, wait a couple seconds.

I use second for 4, sometimes 6, 7, 9, and 10.

The shift indicator suggests I use 2nd for 1, 2, 8, and 11, but f that

Damn how are you people so fast using just the controller?  Time to dust off the old steering wheel from GT4.

Yeah, I should wrote in my post I was referring to the normal one.  Still don't know how you're that fast with the controller!
