3.0L V6

Audi S4. Practical enough that you could use it for mundane crap, such as commuting, carrying a few people or some stuff, all-wheel drive that will make winter driving less 'fun' that pure high power rear drive cars, and something you could potentially park downtown without having to be paranoid about somebody trying to steal it.

On the fun side, you have a 330hp car that handles like a champ with a 6-speed manual transmission. Sure, it may cost $50k, but you're driving it for the rest of your life, so might as well spend the money.

They're marketed as premium sports sedans, no? Suburban housewives can go fuck themselves if they don't like it.

Eh, my 2000 A6 2.7T is basically the same twin turbo engine on the B5 S4.  I sold it to an employee back in 2006 who still works for me.  The car had 120k miles, now has over 150k miles.  Original turbos, no failures. In fact no problems of significance with the whole engine.  The front end does beat you up with ball joints, tie rod ends, etc. etc.  BUt that's $3-400 a couple times a year.  No big deal in the big scheme of things.  Of course if you get one that was abused by the previous owner, you can have issues.  I took real good care of the car, never stressed the turbos without proper warm up , cool down, kept the oil fresh, etc. If you can find a decent used one where you actually know the history of the car, you might be on solid footing.  Besides, the thrill of having an S4 would far outweigh the minor inconvenience of a $4,000 twin turbo swap!

I'm just telling you what Audi and Audi technicians have told my friends who owned B5 S4s, after their turbos failed @ 60-70K. Also, if you search for the problem online, you'll come up with a lot of hits.

When the turbos go the engine doesn't asplode or anything, it just loses power.
