Ford Fiesta!

Two foot headlights are incredibly expensive to replace.

I'm a fan of the hatch. I'd have to see the sedan in person. Doesn't look all that hot. Canadians will buy the hatch. Not sure why our brothers south of us prefer the sedan versions of most cars.

This is one of the few examples where the hatch looks better than the sedan, IMO. You're right though... Canadians love their hatchbacks.

Actually, this is one of the many examples where the hatch looks better then the sedan.

I'm still a Mazda2 fan. It's a bit less trendy, and a bit more handsome.

Realistically speaking, are we looking at reasonable sales numbers for the Fiesta or a CAFE-related token gesture?

CAFE fleet averages are based on how many of a particular model the company actually sells, so unless they sell a significant number of them, they're going to have minimal impact on Fords CAFE fleet average.

However, like the Cavalier throughout the 90s, Ford could theoretically fleet-dump Fiestas as an emergency CAFE-booster.

In before Madman starts wailing about how it has been 'ruined' and now he'll never buy one.

What's got your panties in a knot today?  First, I'm a "Europhile Twit" and now I'm ready to dump all over the Fiesta?  Errm, Okay.

Well, now that I've been able to cast my eyes over the photos, I'm ready to give my judgement.

Drumroll................

Let's start with the hatch.  Hmmm, looks okay.  Paint those side gills in front of the wheels in bodycolour and I could probably live with it.  The lower intake is smaller than Euro version and has less character, but it's not a major deal breaker.  The blue oval badge no longer cuts into the hood which I'm sure makes it cheaper to assemble and it also means panel alignment is not as critical.  Given that the car is to be built in Mexico and is also built down to a price, it could have been a lot worse.  I'd really like to see what they have done to the tail lights and the rear of the car before passing final judgment, however.

As for the sedan.......  Yikes!  Yeah, I knew the sedan was going to be a trainwreck, so I'm really not surprised.  I'm not fond of small sedans and their nearly useless trunks, anyway, so I'd never consider this version in the first place.  I'll take the hatch every time.

So far, the US Fiesta (hatch) looks okay.  Yes, I still prefer the looks of the Euro version but it hasn't changed enough to put me completely off it.  I'm more concerned about the content they may have taken out on the inside in order to get the price down low enough for bottom-feeding American consumers.

Oh, just in case anyone needs reminding, here's the Euro version and the US version...

Euro.

US.

The US one looks better. Less empty expanse of front bumper. Only downgrade is the hood cutline.

Madman won't buy anything. He's cheap and broke like the rest of us, and that's why he buys decade old Volvos.

I prefer the adjective "Thrifty" over the more common "cheap"!

I also LOVE my Volvos!  They're more than cars to me.  They're members of the family.  Getting rid of one of my Volvos would be like getting rid of one of my own children.  Besides, I'd rather put my money elsewhere, like in the house I'm renovating.  I really hope I never have to replace either of my Volvos.  But, should that sad day ever come, I definitely won't buy new.  Used is where the smart money's at!  Hopefully, that day will never come.

I'm still debating if I should leave my 740 to my kids when I die or if I should be buried in it!

Jalopnik has better pictures. This makes it look a lot better.

The sedan's rear I actually like better. It also fits in line with the Taurus.

Lower spec

Interior seems largely unchanged.

Wow, seems like Ford designers learned nothing from the pre-facelift Tribeca. Good thing the rest of the car isn't as fugly as the Subaru or they'd be in a world of hurt.

G'd damn that rear end is obnoxious. Sedan ain't looking so bad any more, is it?

The interior doesn't look too different. That's a good thing. I really liked the Euro model I drove.

The sedan grille is fugly, though.

I don't think it's too bad. I like the hatch's facia, but I think the chrome gill works out okay here.

Look up "awkward" in the dictionary and I guarantee you will see this picture.  Sedans made from hatches seldom look very attractive and this one looks worse than most.  Anyone choosing this lard-arsed abomination over the hatch needs some form of psychotherapy.

Ahhh, now that's what I'm talking about.  Get rid of that obnoxious piece of tinfoil on the bumper and it doesn't look half bad!

I'm not fond of the red markings on the buttons.  Seems to me this would be harder on the eyes at night.  Red should only be used for warning indicators and such.

Aero kit looks pretty sharp!

That shade of blue is just altogether wrong. A deep blue or a navy would look much more attractive.

I'm not the biggest fan of red, although the Chili Pepper Red that Dodge used on the first gen Durango is very fetching.

Ford is offering their Ambient Interior Lighting (up to 5 colours) on a number of their models.  Perhaps Fiesta will have this option.

Red is the best.. but it sucks ass in the day time if you have your lights on and there's sun in the dash.
