An experimental technology that hasn't taken off at all.

Who gives a shit.

I'd say being the first is significant.

I'd say being the first is significant.

I can make the first 9 wheeled vehicle powered by a sail in my garage.  That doesn't make it significant.

I'd say being the first is significant.

I would say it was more significant if the general public was more informed about it. I doubt most of America knows about it.

Wasn't Porsche in serious trouble here in the last year and VW bought them out?

After a bit of research, I did find that VW apparently recently acquired 49.9% of Porsche shares. I didn't really look too hard, but I couldn't really find a reason for this. It does look like it's more of a mutually beneficial merger rather than a bail-out from Porsche being in trouble.

Also, while I couldn't find 2008 or 2009 numbers, Porsche increased their profits from 933 million euros in 2003 to 5.8 billion euros in 2007.

C'mon! There has to be more than one vote for the H2 as a most significant vehicle.  It represents the ultimate excess of the SUV movement.  It was far more than just significant for its brand or GM, it was the single vehicle subject to more derision than any other vehicle sold in the '00s.  It is the absolute antithesis of the Prius.  There's a reason why greenies burned H2s on dealership lots instead of Nissan Armadas or Toyota Highlanders.  When talking heads on the news channels need an icon for the gas-guzzling '00s the H2 sits above their right shoulder on the screen.

Just sayin' ;)

Prius.

I don't want one at all. In fact I get annoyed when I hear about it.
The fact is, I'm ALWAYS hearing about the thing and the car has created a massive buzz since it came out, moreso than anything else on this list. Movie stars, Enviros , politicians and so on are all over this thing. This is the Halo car for pushing ahead with the hybrid movement and beyond. Any time you mention " great on gas ", the Prius almost always comes up, even if there are other options out there for far less money that have similar mileage.

This is my pick.
