Not too sure how I feel about it. I like the face and the side, but the rear doesn't look good. The interior looks nice, though.

That is hideous.

I agree. The old 5 was attractive. I like the profile, but the facias are ugly.

Tave

Those swoopy side-creases following the fender arches are quite possibly the worst aspect of the entire design. How on earth can you like the profile?

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

The profile is the worst part.  It looks like a five year old drew lines on it do make it look like it's going fast.  Terrible.

I think that's the high point of the design.

The rest is awful.

The only Mazda I like is the 2. It got the smiley face treatement, but it works out since the car is small and has the "super-cute-chibi-dwarf" thing going for it.

mzziaz

Poor Mazda.

Once they were the best looking of the Japanese cars.

The overall design is nice, but it's ruined by that coke-induced front end and those weird character lines on the side of the vehicle.

:(

Ditch the lines down the side and it would be significantly better.

Nice interior anyway (looks familiar ).

Anyone who buys one of these smiley face Mazdas needs to be on serious meds; or already is and is taking too damn many.  Their brains must look like a lobotomy gone wrong.

Madman

Holy shit, that's AWFUL!

First, Mazda ruins the 6 by turning it into a dumbed-down Camry clone and now the 5 looks like it was sideswiped by a truck!  Time for a house-cleaning at Mazda's design studio.  Fire everyone, including the janitor!

Have you driven one? Compared to the last 6, it sucks.

It looks very much like a JDM van...not necessarily a good thing. I'm glad they kept the stick though.

No, I haven't driven one. But making it bigger certainly didn't make it 'suck'.

Okay, it doesn't feel as agile, the interior is little upgraded except for in the size department, the pillars limit forward visibility, and it feels slower because of the added weight.

Anyone who said that the car gained a little weight and lost a smidgen of fun for the sake of being a better family car is lying. Yes, it's a better family car, but it lost a ton of that 6iness that made the first one so cool.

It seems that much of the styling was influenced by the Hakaze Concept car...

I never really liked the styling of the original Mazda 5.  It just seemed that it was stuck together with leftovers.  This one is not much of an improvement.  Imo, it will only appeal to those who like ugly cars.

One single door ding would stand out like a Muslim at a Barmitzfa.  Bodymen will absolutely cringe the second one of these rolls through the door.  It's worse then hideous.  It looks like Origami.  Even the interior looks fussy even if it isn't, and the buttons don't look the least bit logically laid out.  Oh Mazda, what happened to you?

Heaven help the autobody tech that has to repair those side creases for minor damage.
Like a fine Detroit wine, this vehicle has aged to budgetary perfection...

Once past the smile, I still like the 5 and the 3.
