I like the styling of our 2006 3 and 2007 6.  I don't like the new 3 or 6 as much.  The new 5 just turns me away althgether.  I'm glad I'm not in the market for one becasue I'm spared the disappointment.   The sides are hideous, IMHO.  On the interior I'm not fond of mixing round and rectangular AC vents either.  I like them either all round like our 6 or all rectangular.

the Teuton

I bet after the IIHS has its way with it, insurance will not be too cheap for the new 5.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

Omi just reminded me how far Mazda has fallen. The 90's was a good decade for them.

I hope they still can deliver on the fun-to-drive quotient.

Those cars look good.

I like the Millennia, but the 626 was just terrible.

Blech. The Millenia was mildly interesting because of the the engine, and the 626 had... pretty much no redeeming value whatsoever.

Sorry, I'd rather have the "enormous Camry clone" 6 and smiley-faced 3 than either of those.

From what I gather, it drove like a 4-door Probe/MX-6. It had the same engines and basic suspension setup, IIRC.

THIS 626 was impressively bland.

93JC

Whatever, you know which one I meant. I care so little about the 626 I can't remember which is which.

It also blew head gaskets and automatic transmissions like Monica Lewinsky, well, you know...

The 626 needed to be replaced. It's just unfortunate that we got a soft piece of mush to replace the 6 instead of a real Atenza.

I almost bought a '99 Millenia S just like this one:

Was really nice, actually. Well built, rapid, comfy. But I couldn't get them to budge on the price, so I went with my first choice, the SVT Contour.
Like a fine Detroit wine, this vehicle has aged to budgetary perfection...

That 626 was a good car. If I remember right it was the first Japanese sedan in that class with a V6. And you could get it with a 5 speed. It was more fun then anything that Honda or Toyota had out at that time.
The 626 that replaced it was the one that was so dull.

As for the Millenia S, it was one of the best built cars of it's day. I worked on hundreds of those things and they are put together very well for the time. It was going to be a bottom of the line Amati until the recession kicked Mazda's ass. And unlike other luxury Japanese brands they didn't just take another car and stick leather all over it and charge more. It was a new car from the ground up and built much better than other Mazda's. Makes me want to see what they could've done with their other cars. I never found it to be dull compared to the other cars in it's class for the time.

It hurts me so much to ask this... what car is this? I now hang my head in shame.

giant_mtb

No worries, man...I'm not sure what that is, either.

Onslaught

Must have been in the early 90's. I see Protege and MX-6 in it. I could see it on a lot with them and MX-3's and RX-7's.

Mazda Lantis. It was sort of an "alternative" to the 323/Protege or 626.

the Teuton

Looks like a four-door "coupe" to me.

That's what it was marketed as.

It came in a 5-door hatch, 4-door sedan, or 3-door hatch.

It also got a 2.0L V6.

Onslaught

Looks like you could get them with a 2.0 V6 and 1.8 4 banger

Dude, the Millenia was a fantastic looking (and driving, from what I hear) car.  I'd rock one.  I happen to like the 626, but it is rather bland looking.

Onslaught

I liked the first gen Millenia more than that one. It had real glass headlamps rather than plastic ones.

Our 1994-1997 Mazda 323 Astina Hatch and Hardtop:

Very smart cars indeed, as was the related Eunos 500 of the time:

I've always admired the Astina/Lantis and Eunos 500 from afar. They look GREAT.

Why didn't we get the cool cars? Recession?
