I still believe in the power of plasticar.

My brother's would have needed a big dent repaired if it wasn't plastic.

I respect your awesomeness, Alex. I still want your BMW, though.

It's not crappy enough for a college kid yet.  :ohyeah:

It's still pristine at 100k miles (though mostly easy highway cruising).

Mine was pristine until I assumed ownership of it in a college neighborhood.

The original owner of my car kept it in a heated garage and didn't drive in bad weather. Poor thing then came to my house, sat in the driveway for a week, and got a couple inches of snow dumped on it.

It's built real well, it handles nicely (for a small 'SUV') it's got a good engine, and it's got more room than a C-sedan.  I don't see what's bad about it.

I'd probably go with a Q5, but then again, I've only driven a Q5 for a total of 30 seconds...so...

All attributes which the Q5 offers.

I don't see the point of buying a GLK over something like a Honda CR-V.  They're both ugly as fuck but at least the Honda is cheaper.

Yeah, but then you'd have to own a CRV ( my nomination for a vehicle I hate. ) Maybe there's still the cool picnic table...

Well, the GLK has ~100 more HP and probably doesn't drive like shit (I've heard the CR-V does).

Now, replace "Honda CR-V" with "Kia Sorento" and you have a good point.

No hate... just cars I wouldn't consider buying, even at a huge discount:

Honda Accord, all Acuras. I used to love them, but the styling offends me on all these cars.
All Toyotas. Except for the FJ and Tacoma and Tundra trucks.
All Lexuses (Lexii?) Rather any comparable Audi or BMW, or Infiniti.
Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Great car, hate the styling, Mustang eats it.
Dodge Sebring/Avenger and Caliber. Ugh.
Jeep Compass. The other Jeeps, including the Patriot, I like.
BMW 1 series. Overpriced pot-bellied pig.
All Lincolns. Much prettier/better cars for the money.
Most Nissans, except the 370z and Maxima. Love the Infinitis.
Ford F-series trucks. Never liked them. Not sure why.

Compared to the other RWD 5 door compact hatchbacks in the market?

You don't pay for BMWs by the pound. Just because it's smaller doesn't mean they made it any cheaper.

You can't get a hatch here.

The Hatch looks decent. The Coupe looks like an overstyled Datsun 510.

My original objections to the 1-Series still hold. I think it looks too small for it's styling, like it's been shrink-wrapped or something; however, I no longer think it looks unattractive, merely less attractive than the rest of BMW's lineup.

Everything about the 1er is good except for its price, especially when you can get a (relatively) loaded Mini Cooper S for less than a base 128i.

The best looking current BMW is the Z4.

My order of preference goes like this (not including the crossovers):

1. Z4

BIG GAP!

2. 3 Series/M3
3. 5 Series
4. 1 Series
5. 7 Series
6. 6 Series

I do. I think the chick that designed the car did an outstanding job. Same for the woman that did the interior. My gripe is that it's WAY too expensive. As a higher end Miata/S2k alternative, the Z3 and early Z4 was a great car. As an SL/XK8 alternative? Not so much.

I couldn't agree more. I like how it takes a lot of its styling cues from the GINA concept, but starting at $46,000 is WAY too much for a non-turbo model, even if it has a folding hardtop.

That said, it's more of an SLK/Boxter competitor than SL/XK. The SL starts at over $100k and the XK starts at $83k.

Both of which are now too expensive, as well. Sorry, $50-$60k for an entry level sports car from any of those companies is WAAAY off the deep end.

It expensive. But I just priced out a Z convert for 47K. So 50K for a Porsche isn't all that bad then.

The best Z in recent memory was the tin-roof Z4:

A brilliant, brilliant car. I've only ever seen one in person at the Classic Adelaide Rally one year, and was bowled over by the taut, muscular stance of the thing.
