Bleh.  Would have liked to see the Fusion win it.

Subaru still manages to be pretty much mid-pack again.  I suppose that's ok.  Figure on some midcycle upgrades, and there is a third generation engine coming out soon too which will hopefully deal with some of their gripes.

If Motor Trend can tell the difference between a comfortable ride and a floaty, lurching one, I'll eat my trousers.

Wow MT. You picked the dullest vehicle in the history of mankind. The Camry.

MT's opinions are always crap. Here's another one.

For a brand new design it should be better.  Why does a company not make the right moves when the competition is right in their collective faces.  I don't get it.  How does the Legacy not surpass some of these older designs?

"A driving enthusiast might want a more involving and athletic machine, but for 99 percent of buyers shopping in this category, the Camry simply nails the mission profile."

Roomy, quiet, refined, easy-to-use - the Camry does it perfectly, and has for quite some time.

Good points.  Really, Subaru needed a new engine design a few years ago.  They're trying to cruise on this whole AWD thing but the reality is that they are no longer the only ones to offer a good AWD system  in a fun to drive package.  They have some serious work to do.

As I mentioned before, this was the most inoffensive comparo ever made. If DLP complained about money from outside sources for this one, I'd have to agree. This was written like it was supposed to be a pat on the back to everyone instead of a serious competition to wring these cars to see which one was the best. The Camry coming in first was a cop out.
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

It is unsafe. These cars should not be on the road.

The Fusion's "oh-shit" handles are dampened so when you release them they don't slam against the ceiling. Does the Camry do that? Huh?

I suspect that the difference in size, ride and amenities is so small that it's tough to choose between them.  Personal preference for a marque might be the biggest factor at this point.

I thought the magazine is named Motor Trend, not Appliance Trend.

Kind of like stating a girl with average looks and grades is the high school superstar.  She may not have the biggest tits, may not be the best looking, may not be the best one in the sack, may not have the gretest personality, may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but by god she's dependable, steady, honest and loyal and doesn't really offend anyone.

That's too often said. Just because it does that doesn't mean it does it perfectly.

That said, the new 4-cylinder engine seems to advance it quite a bit, but the interior and the price remain far from perfect.

Yeah, the interior shot of most of the others show a distinct 'up market' look.  The Toyota's looks kind of bland and dated.

Yep....... that means that they can have a "surprised at the winner, so were we...." line on the cover. They take most of the 2 pages on the Camry trying to justify why they place it first.

What interested me more was elsewhere in one of the monthlies (I had a long stint in Barnes & Noble reading them all last night!), the 2009 sales figures were quoted:

Camry - 356,824
Accord - 290,056
Altima - 203,568
Fusion - 180,671
Malibu - 161,568
Sonata - 120,028
G6 - 87,171
Legacy - 64,997
Avenger - 38,922
Optima  37,527

How on earth did the execrable Dodge Avenger beat the Kia in the sales battle?

It's not that much more expensive and it's a vastly superior car to any of those in this joke of a test.  MT didn't have the balls to include the Passat because they knew it would wipe the floor with all the others.  I wonder how big of a cheque Toyota had to write to Motor Trend in order to make sure a steaming pile of mediocrity like the Camry won?
