S4 is definitely a car I would consider pedestrian.

You haven't taken delivery yet but you are already one of us!
Love it. In the words of Jeremy Clarkson, M3 drivers have no friends.

I was a huge fan of the S4 I test drove with my dad recently. It is a little sedate, but no question, the thing can move.

Jesus...

Anyway, S4 is indeed sweet - perfect mix between performance and driveability. The next gen S4 is rumored to be at 350 - 360 hp and THANK GOD looks to be sticking with supercharging. Also just announced today Audi has joined Apple's CarPlay list (pretty much mandatory for my next car).

My M3 comments are in jest of course.

Re: supercharging. It is vastly inferior than turbocharging at altitude. So much so that in a recent test drive I found an A6 3.0T (supercharged) to be barely faster than a 528i (turbocharged).

I owned a supercharged first gen MINI and it was a dog compared to our current turbo Countryman, even though the power to weight was better for the old one.

It would be a big leap but maybe. Very unlikely to be Japanese - they've really taken a real dive.

No, not you ;).

True, S/C is no different than N/A when it comes to drop off in performance at altitude but I'm pretty much as sea level, or just a bit above.

I think GoCougs should purchase a government subsidized Cadillac CTS.  :praise:

Lol guys, that was supposed to be s4 is definitely NOT a car I would consider plebeian!

I had to read Mexico's post 3 or 4 times, then reread mine, to understand wtf he was talking about.

I drove a APR Stage 2 S4. It was nice, and quicker than my car for sure. But I did have a few gripes - there was power, but even with the stage 2, It didn't feel like 400whp (claimed?). The DSG does shift faster than a person, but it feels....funny. I expected a instant shift, but there is a delay on the gear change of half a second, I didn't care for it. And th brakes where fantastic, but they really stunk after 2 high speed runs (120-130mph) so I was worried about their resistance to fade.

And it's a VW, meaning it's a hopped up VW Rabbit that lost half of it's value the day he bought it. Nice interior won't hide that it's a car for poseurs.

That's all you had to say.

Meh, tuner performance ain't the same as factory on a bunch of levels. DSG in the S4 is very quick. Probably slipping the clutches. Shame, that's gonna be a pricy fix.

He had to let us know the 400 whp S4 was quicker than his Nissan Quest.  I wasn't sure at first.

Especially considering the A4 and Golf share almost no parts. The engine isn't even facing the same way

And the early s4 didn't have a dsg.  Just the 7spd tiptronic right?  Could explain the slow shifts

No, it had the DSG.

I was at the BMW dealer today and saw the F80 M3. Lebowski, you are gonna love it.

Definitely true in most circumstances. For as nice as it was, what would compel someone to buy a VW Golf/Passat/Jetta over a car that isn't an overweight pig and won't start falling apart in 2 years? Like most owners, he'll probably remove the mods and trade it in for a better car in a few years, that way he'll avoid the impending costly repairs. I expect to see it at dealer as a "Mechanics Special" shortly.

Between when I squeezed the paddle and when it shifted there was a delay, the shift itself was fast.

Cool. My dealer had a demo as of like last week, I keep trying to get over to check it out but have been really busy.

What is a "better" car than an S4?

I would be hard pressed to find a new car that I would buy the S4 over.
