Your reading comprehender broke, numbnuts.

The Sonata is so dire that it must be discussed at every opportunity, relevant or otherwise.

I went to the Kia website to build a 2011 Optima, but that feature isn't available yet. So I did the next best thing... I built a 2011 Sonata. 2.0T, 6 speed auto (for a family car the wife can drive), nav, leather heated seats... basically a loaded car. Applying this info and price to the Optima, and given $5000 down and $5000 trade (the STS), I'm looking at less than $270/month purchase financing. I think this might be my next new car buy.

Don't make that mistake.  Total price less trade matters.  For how many months would you have to shell out $270?

It's an '01 that I paid $6000 for almost 3 years ago. It's still a terrific car that's served me well, but it's got 180,000 km on it now and I need something newer.

Really, John? I'm not exactly new at this.

How am I to know that?  Didn't mean to offend you.  Too many people focus on the monthly paynment and not the bottom line cost.  It's burned a bunch of people.

I know. I thought it's common knowledge I'm a member of the 'Spin ol' fart club.

I love how it looks from the back and the side. If the front-end styling gets toned down a bit for a mid-cycle refresh in a few years, that would be just lovely. Besides, he's looking at buying the new Optima, not the Sonata.

Oh god, the profile is about the worst part of it!  The front end is comical, yes, but the profile is so abrupt and falsely dramatic, it's a big mess.  But to each his own, I suppose.

Haha, yeah.  I read the beginning and end of your post and completely skipped the part about the Optima.

Why are you getting rid of it?

IF I buy a new car, I'll use it for trade-in. I love my STS, but like I said it's gettin old.

Old is a 1995 economy car that you're trying to nurse on for two more years. Old isn't your Cadillac. Quit complaining. That car has to be relatively cheap to operate.
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

Nonsense! Spend Sonata money on an STS with fewer kilometres. Problem solved!

I sold the Impreza for $600. The Saturn was a more robust $800. :praise:

I still don't see there being a problem with the Caddy, but I didn't realize Payman had owned it for 3 years already.

Well, I wasn't going to put it in those terms, but I don't know that I'd trade in a perfectly good Caddy for a Hyundai or Kia, but sometimes having something new/different has a value of its own.

I would understand it if he were having problems with the car, but AFAIK, none seem to be arising. Maybe he's just anticipating some at its age and mileage.

180,000 kms... it's been great but it ain't going to last forever. I'll need something newer within a year or so, and I might consider a brand new Optima... I think it looks terrific and it's a lot of car for the money. Keeping the Dakota, I can't live without it, and I'm also starting to look for my "retirement" car, which most likely will be a pre-owned Porsche.

Heritage? It's a Kia. If I was concerned about heritage, I'd have to shell out another $15,000 for a similarly equipped car.
