I plan on getting some sort of adapter or FM transmitter

A few years ago, I was able to pick up a cheap, but somewhat ingenious FM transmitter that has a USB port so that you can play MP3's straight from a flash drive. I think it was about $20 at Target.

He was. This car is very solid. Exterior wise, not so much. Mechanically, yes. (And I don't drive with headphones. I plan on getting some sort of adapter or FM transmitter)
Doesn't the iPod have a built-in FM Transmitter?

Yay, car!

Now go places, child.

So what's up with the "Hi" title then?

Congrats on your first car. I never knew there was a Neon coupe...

Amazing how in the US you can "attack" your competitors in commercials. They compared this Neon to a Lincoln Town Car and literally tried making it look bad!  :tounge:

Because they were all sent to the crusher by the mid-'80s.

I'm going to see how cheap I can find a line-in head unit.
I have a basically new in box Pioneer unit I'll sell you for $50 shipped. Only caveat is you have to buy a Pioneer harness for it, which is like $10 on Ebay.

Won't he need an installation kit as well?  When I helped my son install an aftermarket unit in his Buick I had to buy a wiring kit and a kit of plastic parts to mount in the dash hole to mount the radio in.

Z06:  The speakers will be about 15 years old and may be shot as well.

I found a cheapo used OEM unit from a Dodge Dakota.

My car in it's current state is likely a much better car than what those cars were when they left the factory.

That might be true, but in terms of design, the Neon is nothing compared to those beauties.  :praise:

Thank god.  I was sick of you posting "400K MILES TERCEL RUNS GOOD NEEDS DOORS HOOD WINDOWS $3500" and asking if it's a good deal.

I mean, congratulations.

Yup.

Seriously, congrats. Must feel good.

And wow - you'd think the previous owner would have cleaned it. Nasty.

It's not too bad, the carpets are dirty, and for OH that actually looks pretty clean. Around late Feburary and early March the snow starts melting so everyone's feet are muddy. And on cheaper cars like this (where no one cares) that mud tracks inside.

I'm going to detail it tomorrow.

Neons also will not start without the clutch being depressed. I am sure he'll quickly get used to the routine. Leaving it in neutral is not a bad idea, unless you're on a steep hill or don't trust your parking brake.

Congrats 2o6, looks like you got a great deal, and those Neons are surprisingly good cars. I miss mine. You are coming up on the t-belt replacement though (105k I think).

I never leave my car in neutral. Parking procedure:

1) Stop car - clutch and brake pedals both depressed
2) Pull handbrake
3) Turn off engine
4) Release brake pedal. Clutch pedal is still depressed
5) Release clutch pedal and make sure car is in 1st gear.

This way the weight of the car is rested on the parking brake, not the transmission, but you still have the car in gear to help out in case the parking brake fails.

Yeah, someone on the Neon forum told me about this. I'm going to try and get that done before the summer's out. Should ask about this before I pick up the car. (Should've asked before I agreed on a price, but oh well)

I use my iPod. I don't own a single CD. (Yay torrenting?)

iPod interfaces are relatively expensive, but any new head unit these days should be able to read MP3 CDs, so you could just make a few of those.

2o6

I'm just getting a line-in player or a stock radio with a cassette adapter.

Or an FM transmitter.

Eh, if you're at all concerned with sound quality, casette adapters and FM transmitters both suck. That said, your speakers probably suck anyway, so unless your long term plans involve speaker upgrades, it might not make too big of a difference.

I'm not an audiophile.

There are intermediate steps between shitty, stock, 14 year old economy car speakers and audiophile quality speakers.

If I can find a decent cheap stereo I will probably buy it.
