At BURGER KING:rockon:

I was driving through Dachau during lunchtime and was hungry as hell. I knew there was a Burger King up ahead so I pull up into their parking space and what do I immediately detect?

Alabaster white US-spec Mercedes-Benz S550 with the AMG package - I could tell it part of the European delivery program because of the characteristical license plates these cars are issued.

I figured these guys are inside Burger King about to chow down so I park and head inside. It didn't take me long to find them - they stood out like a sore thumb. It was a couple and their teenage daughter. They were dressed like...Americans...and they spoke American English - and nobody was behind them. I slotted in right behind them and waited for a few minutes before talking to them.

At first I asked them if the white Mercedes S550 out there is their new car and if they're doing the EDP. Yep, it was them. They had been in Germany for two weeks already - Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Berlin, Hamburg, N?rnberg and now Munich. They're leaving tonight for Bremen where their car will be loaded unto a ship tomorrow and destined for the US.

They're a Mercedes family having owned MB's throughout the years and also a W221 S550 in black. But now they wanted a new one in white etc. They also have a BMW 8-Series back in America. I didn't ask where they were from. I told them that if they could spare some time, they should visit the BMW Museum in Munich (to see that history and heritage as they already visited the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart ). They're coming back in September for Oktoberfest and to tour Germany again because they liked it so much. The husband told me that this was his first time in Germany and he loves it. He doesn't want to go back to the US (must be the Autobahns we have here ).

That was basically it. We said our goodbyes then.

Then I ordered my large fries, large Coke and a double bacon burger without cheese. Damn that stuff was good. God bless America!   :praise:  :tounge:

Nice story, although why on earth would an American go all the way to Germany and eat fast food?  Do they not have other restaurants there?

Yeah, it seems pretty pointless to me, too.  Whenever I've gone to other countries, I always sought out the local cusine.  I didn't travel 4,000 miles to go to a damn Burger King!  I could have stayed home and done that!

Dachau? The "Arbeit macht frei" Dachau?

GoCougs

For ~$100k you'd think ze Germans would be able to align the tailpipes properly.

cawimmer430

I think they were coming into Burger King after touring the former concentration camp. They seemed like cultured folks so I suspect they tried the local cuisine while on the road.  :ohyeah:

Might be the angle. I shot the image from within my car and my windshield might have slightly distorted the image.

I've been there. It's pretty big - lots of things to see. Coupled to the incredible heat that's going around here, I suspect people just can't help themselves but feel hungry afterwards.

Same reason there is a huge Dallas BBQ, McDonalds, TGIFridays and other miserable restaurant chains in the heart of Times Square. Part of it is how much people value the familiar in unknown territory, another part of it is how corny Americans' collective tastes in food are. Though for what it's worth, I don't know much of merit within German cuisine, and they might have just not wanted to search + think + try something new which is all fair.

I would assume Burger King's menu is somewhat altered to suit German taste. They're still being adventurous

Guess what they call a quarter pounder in Paris?

Samuel L Jackson said once that he hates when people come up to him and say that.  He replies "What?" because that's his line.  Travolta is the one who asks the question and answers it.  He just says "What?"

I'm not really sure. We have a bunch of burgers, fries, onion rings in Burger King here and the usual assortment of drinks but with some European influences like Apfelschorle (apple juice mixed with sparkling water) and carbonated water.

We don't have Sauerkraut or Wienerschnitzel dishes at Burger Kings here.  :tounge:

I think I might have tried that at the Coca Cola store in Las Vegas, I don't remember but I tried some clear Italian drink that was nasty.

Apfelschorle? You can actually make that at home. All you need is some apple juice and carbonated water. Mix about 40-60 of apple/water respectively and you've got yourself an Apfelschorle:ohyeah:

There are a few brands that produce them in factories though. Like Adelholzener:ohyeah:

Was their daughter hot?

On a scale of 10, I'd giver her a 6. Face was average and she was short.

From a personality point of view, she seemed pretty cool though.  :ohyeah:

Thinking about it, what good food is Germany known for? I would probably play it safe there too, I don't think Germans are known for their cuisine.

hotrodalex

There's a good chance that they ate plenty of German food the previous two weeks and just wanted something American. Plus, they might have wanted something fast after touring the concentration camp. I know I don't like sitting down at restaurants after walking around in museums and such all day.

Oh, and I'm assuming a large in Germany is similar to the small size in America.

Cookie Monster

I like eating at known places in foreign countries since they offer different things.

At Dominoes in India you can get paneer on your pizza!
