That Victoria Beckham was appointed as creative design executive tells you everything. No wonder it looks constipated. Mind you, economy is promising - no fuel consumption. At all.
I'm sorry.  What the fuck did you just say?

I think it's a little dumb to make a "Range Rover" that can't go off road,
You know what's even dumber?  Jeeps that can't go off road.  Hell, what about Jeep Grand Cherokees that don't come with a two-speed transfer case...or even Jeeps that come with 2 wheel drive.

I was gonna ask how the piss they got ahold of the concept car...

Eh, as long as they still sell a wrangler with real capability they can sell whatever other crap they need to stay afloat. Most SUVs come with an awd base option, hard to fault only Jeep for that when the rest of the world does the same.

They did hit a new low with the rwd only wrangler and that ridiculous compASS, hard to forgive 'em for that level of transgression.

Former pop star Posh Spice, or as she is formally known, Victoria [David] Beckham, has found a new job; she's been appointed creative design executive at Range Rover. The announcement was made yesterday during the 40th birthday celebrations of the Range Rover brand, at The Orangery, Kensington Palace, where Land Rover introduced its new Evoque 'baby' SUV.

In her new role, the pop singer-turned-fashion-designer will lend her trendy input on future special edition Range Rover design projects, starting with a Special Edition of the Evoque.

Speaking at Range Rover's 40th anniversary event, Victoria Beckham said: "This is a very exciting collaboration. The classic British heritage of Range Rover and the effortless style, quality and beauty is something I truly admire and also what I hope to achieve with my own brand. I am honoured to take on this role and be part of the creative team."

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover and Range Rover Design Director, and the man responsible for hiring Beckham, commented:

"Victoria Beckham is a talented British fashion designer and is extremely knowledgeable about great design and trends. Victoria understands luxury products - she is a Range Rover fan and has been a Range Rover owner for many years. Her fashion business is now in its third year and her designs are loved by critics and bought by many of the most stylish women in the world. I believe this appointment adds a new dimension to my design team as we continue to design products to appeal to a wider audience."

I hate the H3 for different reasons.  It's ugly, it's underpowered, it's hard to see out of, it's overpriced, and it's cramped inside.  Personally, I don't see what any of those have to do with me hating 2WD Jeeps?

That's different.  For the first 50 years that Jeep existed their trucks have all had off road capability, and usually regarded as the best in the business at it too.  I don't understand why anyone would even want a 2WD Jeep, and I think it's shameful that the only way to get a 2 speed transfer case in a Jeep is with the V8 (although that appears to have changed with the new Grand Cherokee).  The fact that they now have two or three crossovers with no off road ability shows they have lost their way and their focus.

I don't give a rat's ass if anyone offers an AWD sedan or a front engine Porsche.  The engine in the 911 is in the wrong place anyway, which is why I'm a big fan of the Cayman.

There have been 2wd versions of jeeps for decades, this is not something new.

One doesn't need a V8 to get a 2-spd transfer case, the QTII system was available with the V6 in 2005 and up Laredo GCs models.

I don't know why anyone would want a V6 mid-sizer SUV anyway, unless it either had a good amount of power or significantly better gas mileage. A 305 hp 4.7 cherokee gets the same or better mileage than a 3.7.

Mustangs and Camaros have been some of the best bang for the buck cars out there producing some very fast cars, most of them were 4 cyl or 6 cyl grocery getters though.

However, just like with Jeep, click a few of the important options and get serious performance in return.

Only the wrangler/CJ and a few ancient cherokees had a four with the exception of the liberty crd, however point taken, most vehicles will not be the top model much like most camcords are 4 cyl.

edit: there was also a regular 4 in the liberty

Uh, much like every other wife of a soccer player, I'm sure she's spent a ton of time in these vehicles. And much like every other woman who happens to be the primary driver of these things (sans Wayne Rooney, apparently), she probably knows what she likes. Having more money than god to be able to discover everything she likes probably makes her a good candidate for this manufacturer's aesthetics department because a) she's British, working for a Brit brand, b) she knows a lot about luxury goods, c) apparently she likes fashionable stuff, and RRs are nothing if not that, and d) she's high profile.

And come on, most of us aren't exactly RR's key demographic, either.

Give her a chance before we start ridiculing her. After all, I believe at one point Chris Bangle was responsible for the E46 BMW. And if he could do something right amid the clusterfuck that became BMW, perhaps she can do something right, too.
