Bring it on.

Apparently S2ks are really expensive to insure.

I started checking out rusty old NA Miatas last night. Damn all of you! :rage:

I'm about to e-mail about this one (same one I posted previously).

LOL, I found out right now that my car doesn't have power door locks.

It also doesn't have cruise control, but I knew that before getting it. I'm pretty sure cruise control is available only on Touring and up.

I don't mind the fact that it doesn't have power locks because it's so narrow I can easily reach the other lock. Not sure if my parents will be happy. :mask:

I don't have power locks on mine either... but yeah it's easy to get used to.

It's nice in that you can lock the center console and leave the top down and no one can get into your trunk too.

BTW, I drove at about 80 mph on the highway with the top and windows down. It's really loud but it's bearable. Only problem is there's no way to hear the radio at those speeds.

With the windows up and top down it's fine but I like having the windows down if I'm putting the top down.

It's got A/C and power windows so I was surprised about the non-power locks.

And I don't need radio when I've got that sweet exhaust note.

2007, 26k miles, 5 speed.

Finding a 6 speed with cloth was impossible, and after MrH told me that the 5 and 6 speeds have the same top gear ratio I stopped looking for 6 speeds.

That's pretty much the case with most 5 or 6 speed comparisons.  It's what's in between 1st and the last gear that makes up the difference, i.e. closer gear ratios.

In the Acura RSX, the Type-S came with a 6 speed, and the first and top two gears were identical to the first and top two in the non-Type-S.  It just had closer ratios in between.

Nice car, buddy!

I always thought 6th was a second overdrive gear. I guess it depends on the car.

I've seen it more often than not to be the same exact ratio as fifth in a *comparable 5 speed.  Those who say "second overdrive gear" don't really know what they're talking about, methinks.  I just smile and nod when I hear that.

Depends on the car.

Here's the brochure from your year miata.  This way you can see what options you have and don't have.

So in the Miata's case, it seems the 5 and 6 speeds are different altogether.  But like I said, in the RSX, they were essentially the same but with closer ratios between first and the top two.

I've seen Tremecs set up the same way.  My GTO 6 speed was essentially the same as a 5 speed in a Mustang, save for an extra ratio or two thrown in in the middle.

Regardless, the Miata looks like a mighty fun car!  Congrats!

Basically I don't have any of that stuff. I think I have a Miata SV (whatever that stands for).

BTW, was the Bose sound system optional? Whenever I turn the car on it flashes Bose Surround Sound on the radio display.

If you have AC, you have the Sport trim without the convenience package.

Yes, the Bose system was only available on the higher level of trims.  I know it's standard on the Grand Touring, and it may have been on the Touring too.  Not sure.

Oh, ok, thanks. It's weird that it flashes Bose on the radio if it doesn't have it.

I'm also going to order new mats for the car. The driver's side mat has some holes in it. Not a big deal but I'd like to replace it.

I love the S2000. That and the NSX are the only japanese cars in my all time favorites list. But miatas are just so much more affordable...

MrH

The real reason why I didn't go for an S2000:

Harder to find one with the right mileage.
More expensive
Cheaper and not as well laid out interior
Insurance is much more expensive
Miata is plenty fast for everyday driving
Miata has a much better cloth top
S2000's are usually much more beat up

S2000 has a power top, and I hate electric motors.  When I drove it in comparison to the NC, it didn't feel as solid, just felt cheaper and less "germanic" I guess.  Kind of like the difference you feel when driving a Civic and Jetta or whatnot.

to be honest, it's probably because there wasn't anything newsworthy about the car during its last production years other than the stiff suspension, loss of folding top, and baby blue paint that was 2008's "Club Special". before that piece of "big news" broke out, most discussions going about on s2ki were ap1 vs. ap2 flame wars, and other inane things.

Toss in the skip-shift, and Vettes (and GTOs) are basically 4-speeds with the top two gears both being overdrives.
