She saved you from a real headache. The days of good cheap cars are long gone. Best hope might be something with a salvage title.

They're really not. I've seen several really nice cars go super fast around here. Sub 3k.

Two kinds of cars have suddenly become more popular around here.

Lamborghinis, and clapped out autocross grade Miatas.

Both of them are due to the M1Concourse club track that opened last year. The Lambos are "club" rentals, and the Miatas are part of the "Roadkill Nights" time trial league.

Accordingly though, its a lot harder now to find decent cheap Miatas.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Used, good condition & reasonably priced Miatas have become a rarity everywhere. NA's around here are commanding 4 to 6 grand, NB's about that much or more (Mazdaspeed versions are usually over 10K), NC's ranged from 8 to 15 so I said screw it and went ND. I'm not paying that much more, includes a full warranty, fastest Miata to date and I know that some punk didn't mod it to the gills.

I would love to do the same but family, child support, and hoping to buy a house someday keep me from spending money on carz.

Like literally I don't lust after most sports cars. You can't use their full potential (legally) without track time.

Miatas are so amazing though.

Wow that's alot to deal with! I don't have any kids (yet) but if I did that would certainly change the order of priorities for sure. Hope you find the right NA MX-5! And I concur about other sports cars. A few weeks ago I was behind this M3 as were waiting to get onto the on ramp. He gunned it and of course I did my best to try and keep up but I slowed down at around 75 since he was going at least 90, maybe 100. Ten seconds later a police SUV zooms past me and goes straight for the BMW and pulls him over, along with one of his buddies who happened to be nearby. Assuming he got a citation, that's at least a solid $500 right there!

Miatas are wonderful in that you can have fun with them within speed limits.

AutobahnSHO

Totally agree. I had an NA in 2012 and driving to work has never been more fun. Plus I had a minivan and 97 legacy so if weather was crappy I had the AWD option.

I've decided I'm gonna get either a 2020 model or a 1 year used 2019. A white Club trim.

I'd get the new model.  1 year used MY cars are weird in that sometimes they are more expensive than the new ones and you get a higher interest rate if you finance it.

Yeah, just depends on the details. I'll crunch the numbers when it's time to buy and see which makes more sense. Also depends if I can even find a 1 year old car for sale.

If anyone's willing to fly out to California one can often get rocking deals on one or two year old cars.

A TPMS sensor failed. Boo-urns. Well, I need to take my car in for a recall anyways, so might as well add TPMS repair to the list of things to do.

The recall has to do with the cruise control sensor, which apparently will remain active and drain the battery if you turn the engine off with cruise enabled. Oops. Remember when I was complaining that my smart keys were flattening my Miata's battery? The cruise is probably the culprit.

Sure there are better deals out there but that one took me 5 seconds to search on Craigslist. Just saying that good deals on 1 year old cars can be had.

Oh, definitely.  Which makes me sad.  I wish there was more demand for the new miata, it's great.

Very strangely the new power hasn't made the car any faster. 0.2 to 60, 0.1 through the quarter. Worth repeating that the OG 155HP car is legitimately quick... but it will be nice to be able to wind out the motor. Mazda is really doing God's work

Odd that despite the gearing supposedly being unchanged, the top gear acceleration numbers are way slower on the new car.  And the torque peak on the revised motor is supposed to arrive 600 RPM sooner than the old one.  Curious what the torque curve actually looks like.  Does it actually make less torque at the bottom end and then sharply ramp up just before peak relative to the old one?

My buddy's S/Ced NA.  I drove it when it was all chassis, before he put the supercharger on it.  I did a ride along with him at one of our auto-x events and the thing was pretty viciously powerful.  Snapped my head back into the roll bar the first couple of times he put his foot into it.
