Zing! Too true. Telling two models of Audis apart practically requires a jeweler's loupe.

VAG in general is like this now.

Does Buick need a new Coup??

I think a decked Astra as a Buick would work well.

Did I ever say it was a bad thing or that I think the vehicle is not good-looking?

No.

You were pretty sarcastic ("how creative") and sounded a little disappointed ("terribly derivative").

In any event, it was just a joke dude.

All Audis now feature a saggy butt and overly complicated headlights. Coming down the road it takes a while to distinguish what Audi it really is.

This car does not deserve an exclamation point.

Agreed.

I like the interior, minus the tacky fake wood.  I was hoping for an Astra with a Buick grille, much like how the Regal is a straight rebadge if the Insignia.  Instead we get a rebodied Chevrolet Cruze that was obviosly designed for the Chinese market.  Yes, I know the Astra and the Cruise share a similar platform, but I sure the Buick version has been considerably softened to suit typical Chinese and American tastes.

The Verano just reminds me a bit too much of this....

The Buick version IS an Astra with a trunk and a Buick face. This car is sold in China as the Excelle GT. If demand is strong enough, I think they may bring over the Excelle XT, which is an Astra 5-door with a Buick badge and a nicer interior.

And isn't this car SUPPOSED to be soft? It's a Buick.....

CJ

Seems to me like Buick is trying to change it up a bit. The Regal is much firmer than almost anything they've ever made before. The new Lacrosse is firmer than the one it replaces. I think GM is realizing that they can't really keep making the same cars they used to.

That's because they are NOT the same cars they used to be. They're OPEL for god sake ;)

sweet interior. the exterior looks off, but not bad for a baby buick. still, it could be better on the outside.

GM uses that engine in many models with similar horsepower, including the Malibu and Equinox. It's also in line with most midsize sedans and compact SUVs -- in a compact car.

"Only" 177 hp?  It's plenty comparable to Ford/Mazda's 170 hp 2.5L, or Toyota's 169 hp 2.5L (or their 162 hp 2.4L), or Honda's 177 hp 2.4L.

EX models for Accord produce 190 hp. The Kizashi's motor produces 185 hp.

Toyota: 169 hp (2.5)
Honda: 190 hp
Hyundai/Kia: 200 hp
VW: 170 hp (2.5)
Ford/Mazda: 170 hp (2.5)
Suzuki: 185 hp (180 w/CVT)
Mitsu/Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep: 173 hp
Nissan: 175 hp (2.5)
Subaru: 170 hp (2.5)

The engine is class competitive, but for whatever reason, the Koreans have some really inflated numbers with their 4 cylinders.

2.4 = 200 HP
2.0 Turbo = 274 HP

And it still isn't that great.

Huh?

The 2.4DI in the Sonata makes 200HP. This is only a few HP fewer, and this is an older designed motor.

It's not very refined and it has 23 less HP from the same displacement with DI.

ifcar

Refinement is the weak point of the Hyundai 2.4, not the latest iterations of the GM engine.

I thought the exact opposite.  Yes, the Hyundai 2.4 is a bit loud on the outside, but you can't really hear it on the inside or feel it.

Depends on the iteration.  The one in the latest Buicks and the '10+ Terrain and Equinox is DI.  The one used in the Malibu, HHR, Skystice, etc is not DI (and still makes 169-175 hp depending on application).
