VW Golf Cabrio

I like it a whole lot more than the Eos and Beetle Cabrio.

CJ

It looks dreadful.  It's a Bitch Basket take 2.

Volkswagen would do well to bring it here. There's a dearth of inexpensive convertibles in the U.S., and no inexpensive small convertible but the two-seat Miata.

Galaxy

VW claims it is just as quiet  as the regular Golf with the roof up. It is available with engines 105hp-210 hp. 4 gassers 2 diesels.

Needs a basket handle like the old one.

I agree, but it would still have to be priced carefully. The regular GTI costs $24k, and the V6 Mustang convertible costs $27k.

It just needs to handily undercut the $32k Eos. Should be doable.

Galaxy

Golf vs Eos.

The Eos's ass is to big, the Golf's to small.

I don't see why they couldn't sell a drop-top Golf (non-GTI) for $25K.

The A3 cabrio suffers from the same problem, must be a shortcoming of the PQ35 plattform.

I think it's just the nature of trying to turn a hatchback into a convertible.  Look at the old VW Cabrio or the Mini Cabrio.

BMW certainly solved it better with the 1er cabrio.

Of course there is the 1er coup?, but it can't be that much more difficult to turn the 1er hatchback into a decent coup?/cabrio then the Golf?

That's probably the likely outcome. They might even try to undercut the $25k Mini convertible somewhat.

In the end, I'd still go straight for the Mustang. Easy choice.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 1-er hatch only sold in 5-door form?  BMW really didn't have any choice but to make a 'vert from the coupe since 4-door drop tops have some structural issues.  In contrast, the Mini and Golf are both 3-door hatches.

The base Golf starts at ~ 17.5K.  If they can bring a Golf Cab to market starting at 20k and have it work its way up from there it should do pretty well.

I will correct you, as you are wrong! There is a 3 door hatch 1 series as well as the 5 door.

Looks pretty good, but I prefer the Eos to it.
