This is one movie they can NEVER remake, without completely fucking it up.

I don't know why it's so hard for Hollywood to make a great racing theme movie.  Remember Driven that was terrible.

Grand Prix was ahead of its time in many areas. It was filmed in 70mm (the standard is 35mm), and one cool fact is that the close up racing was filmed from a GT40, with Phil Hill at the wheel. I've seen it maybe 20 times over the years, and again today... for the first time on a 50" HD with surround sound. It was epic. I cranked the volume during the racing scenes and I swear the house shook.

Monza race, set to Craig Armstrong's "Escape". This music is used on Top Gear. The last minute of the video gave me chills, as they raced for the checker.

It's amazing that more people didn't die in those old F1 cars.

It was quite the era. I read that for every 5 years of racing, your chances of dying in a crash was 2 in 3.

I've seen some footage of deadly crashes from F1 races from the 60s and 70s, pretty hardcore stuff.

After watching all these clips, and finding that the whole movie isn't available to stream, I just had to watch something with race cars last night. Unfortunately, I chose Driven. What a waste of time. Shift now! Go faster! Those cars must have had, like, 30 gears.

Could've had the potential to be better, sad.

Oh yeah I remember a few years back people were talking about making a Nascar movie staring Britney Spears, thank got that never happened.

I haven't watched it for a while but I guess I'll have to now.  That was, by far, the best racing era.  Nothing since has ever come close; maybe WRC when Colin McRae was still racing (and alive).  Something about Scotland breeds the best racers.

Better than "Le Mans"?

I haven't watched Grand Prix in years.  Guess I need to look for it.

LeMans was good, but I think Grand Prix is the ultimate racing flick.
