QuoteThere's more than one way to increase efficiency, and Mazda seems intent on proving that it can compete in the ever-rising stakes of fuel mileage without actually going to the trouble of investing heavily in hybrid technology.

Instead, Mazda is taking a multi-pronged approach that includes new gasoline and diesel engines, efficient automatic and manual transmissions and lightweight structures that incorporate both the body shell and supporting chassis architecture. That whole philosophy is bundled up nicely in a package Mazda is calling SkyActiv.

In addition to SkyActiv, Mazda is also using the 2011 Geneva Motor Show to introduce the world to the second showcar (the first being the Shinari) styled using its Kodo design language: the Minagi Concept. A production version of the Minagi is slated for a debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year

Very nice, but except for the attractive front end, it looks exactly like the other 152 cute-utes on the market. In the rear 3/4 shot, I would have believed it was a Hyundai, a Kia, a Nissan, a Lexus, a Toyota, an Infiniti, a Chevy, etc etc.

You could argue that those brands were taking their cues from Mazda from their CX models that came from the RX-8 design language (back in 2004).

I think it looks great. This is not the finished product and if the fuel mileage is there, it will be a great seller for Mazda. It may take some people out of the 3 Hatch and put them into the CX-5. We'll see how the final product comes out, but its attractive none the less.

Definately true.  Even Audi is copying them and, usually, everyone else copies Audi.

Nice Tribute.

It's a Tribute to the tribute .  BTW I wished Mazda would bring over their pickup since they are no longer blood brothers with the Ranger.

That would be awesome. We could get the Danger Ranger.

It's cute, but I don't care for the grill. And although I'm generally a fan of the LED driving light strips, it's getting a little ridiculous.

You're my age.  We're getting old.  Plus, now that you're married, your life expectancy has gone way down, since you're more likely to be poisoned by your wife.

Exactly what I was thinking. No wonder I still get all hot and sweaty over the straight-edged Range Rovers or Jeeps.

Thank fucking God Mazda is moving away from the smile front ends. I was getting worried I'd have to find a new car manufacture.

One reason I told someone to get a 2009 Mazda 3 instead of the 2010

They said they were moving away from the Nagare styling awhile ago. I

I was wondering when Mazda was going to make their own compact SUV and not a Ford clone. I think this looks great from most angles. It's cleaner than the Sportage/Tuscon. More toned down than the Outlander Sport. Less bland than the Escape, CR-V, and Rav4.

Out of the smaller utes out there, I tend to have a thing for the Terrain. I know I'm going to get flamed for that, but I really think the boxy styling translated well and it looks better than the blander Nox. I think this CX-5 would probably be my favorite next to the 9-4x.

Mazda makes their own compact SUV/CUV.  It's called the CX-7.

I'm not sure I'd call the Edge "compact".  Although truthfully, the CX-7 kind of straddles the line between compact and midsize and may actually fall into the bottom end of midsize.  It is larger than most of the small CUVs (slightly bigger than the LWB Rav4).

And Matty, there's nothing wrong with looking at them. It's perfectly natural. There comes a time in a young man's life when he develops new feelings, funny feelings he's never felt before, about such things.

'Cept Kevin, he developed feelings for Miatas. And there's nothing wrong with that.
