Time to really lay down the bragging rights.  How many of us are stupid enough to risk incarceration to drive over twice the highest domestic speed limit?

ifcar

High 80s in the Caravan. I was in a group, and the lead driver -- in a Suburban towing a trailer of canoes -- had a serious lead foot. The driver behind me, in a rental DTS, fell behind and got lost.

CALL_911

Fastest I've ever gone is 125 in the BMW. I've hit 120 a couple of times though.

The fastest I've ever driven was ~120 mph, and that was in my Camaro (first car),  I did it only once, and it was more than 15 years ago. I had just thrown in a new motor I had rebuilt (swapped out a POS 305 2-bbl for a moderately built 350 & TH400 tranny), and I had to drive to college, which included many miles of driving out in the middle of nowhere. Since then the fastest I've driven was ~100 mph, it's only been a few times, and only n the last few years. All my cars between the Camaro and the Accord either couldn't easily hit 100+ mph, or where wildly unsafe in doing so, so I never bothered.

fastest for me was an indicated 130 mph, but the actual speed was probably closer to the low 120's. There's just not enough empty road anymore to go that far into the triple digits nowadays.

and for the record, that wasn't when my avatar photo was taken. That was just another time I set my speedo to display metric units, for shits and grins, again.

shit, I would've been the one leading the pack if that were me; at the very least, I wouldn't have lost a damn Suburban with canoes attached to it

For the sake of simplicity it's ok to claim indicated speed rather than getting into the minutia of indicated vs actual speed, unless of course you have in fact verified the claim with radar.

FoMoJo

Only once in my '70 Mach I a long time ago, the needle was buried past the 130mph limit of the speedometer.  I was racing a 390 Ranchero at about 2:00am along a slight downhill stretch of the local thru-way.  We'd been racing for a stretch before then but it needed the slight downhill to get to that speed.  To make matters worse, I wasn't a dumb teenager anymore.

About 102-103 mph in the Miata. I've hit 100 in the Accord but neither car is particularly quick in getting up to that speed.

I'm not sure what my top speed was. A guy in a 350Z was fucking around with me on the interstate and even if I knew he could take me I took the bait. Turns out he backed off before I did but when I looked down I was going 135 and that was after a second or two of slowing down.

I've been in an M3 going faster then that but wasn't driving. Didn't like it all that much because the guy had a reputation of fucking up.

Cookie Monster

Yeah I've been in an M3 going 140 down the highway. I would never actually drive that fast on such a crowded highway though.

You can get into trouble fast with a modern car. All my older cars sounded like a sci-fi ship about to blow up when you got near 100 or so. My RX and other cars I've been in don't even make a sound at 100 really. I had to really take notice of that when I got it.

S204STi

Yeah, pretty much every car these days can clear the century mark given enough time, and do so in relative tranquility.

An indicated 137.  Pretty close to my IQ, actually.

I did 140 mph in my Mustang.  Let me tell you, that was fucking scary.  I've done 115 in my SVT Focus and it was as stable as it is at any speed.  I've also done 140 mph on the Autobahn in my cousin's 550i.

mzziaz

I've done 230 kph, a little over 140 mph, with an Alpina B10 on the Autobahn. Car was dead stabile and ready for more. Didn't have the balls to go any faster since my whole family was in the car.

Cuore Sportivo

SVT_Power

I've hit the top speed on my car a few times which is 143 mph. But there was one instance where I hit a downhill part of the road with a decent tail wind. My GPS was indicating 240 km/h (149 mph), not sure if that's entirely accurate.

I usually only keep up that kind of speed for 10-20 seconds, but once I did probably around 5 miles. The highway exits sure came up quickly...

Oh, on the street... ;)

140+ in the SVT across a bunch of Montana, about the same on a short stretch near home in the Rex, 150+ across a bit of I90 in western washington in a modded 944 turbo. And a slightly scarey stint above that on a 3 mile long straight stretch on a local backroad back home in the 466cid Mustang (scary because, while it was stable, the brakes SUCKED as it turns out). According to gearing and rpm, it should have been closing in on 170.

I think all these have passed the statute of limitations... ;)

In Germany I did about 150-155 mph on the autobahn.  I forgot about that.  I've only done about 110 mph in the Protege5.

Around 100MPH in the Neon. However, it's limited to 109, so I didn't have much more to go.

And I remembered the safety ratings of the car and I slowed down.

Lol you think if you hit a wall or an incoming car at 100 mph or 110 mph, or even 60 mph that you'd survive?

Yeah, but Neons do the bad things at 40-50MPH. At 100MPH I'd be a jumbled mess.

I didn't verify with my GPS, but I know approximately how inaccurate my GPS is thanks to my GPS. Indicated ~120, so about 115mph is my best effort. Car still had a bit of room to go, but I got paranoid and backed off.

hotrodalex

120 in my dad's BMW before I caught up to the cars in front of me. Don't think I'll ever really go faster than that unless I'm in the middle of nowhere with a similar car or on a track.

I've also maxed out my Saturn, at 115 indicated. But I know the speedo is a bit slow, so it may have been about 120.  Did that for 5-6 miles in a busy suburban area.

Nicely done.

I hit 110-115 mph in my old Miata. That was the upper limit for me in that car.

I'm not sure how accurate my GPS speedometer is.  It's usually 2-3mph higher than my indicated speed in the Jetta, depending on how high I go.  I also once got pegged at 85 when I swore I was doing 80, so maybe my car's speedo is actually pessimistic at speed.
