The Versailles at least had some air of luxury.


The Cimmeron was based upon the craptacular Cavalier, and aside from some trim, there is nothing differing it from that and the Cavalier.

Good point. Cadillac sold more than 2.5x more Cimarron's than Lincoln sold Versailes' too.

Cadillac was a better brand than Lincoln at the time, so IMO their fall from grace was more dramatic.

How common a sight are the Cimarron and Versailles in the USA these days? I imagine they're extremely rare.  :mask:

I go to school with someone who had an '84 Cimmeron.


Versailles is almost unseen and totally rare. Cimmeron is rare too, but you can still find one. In fact, the whole 1st Gen GM J-body is pretty hard to come across.

I've seen one, ever. I can't remember the last time I saw a Buick Skyhawk, Oldsmobile Firenza or Pontiac J2000/Sunbird either.

1st gen. Cavaliers are a very rare sight these days. Even second gen. and early third gen. Cavaliers are becoming very rare.

A friend of mine had a Cadillac Cimmaron in the early '90s and I haven't seen one in years  I don't think I've seen a Lincoln Versailles since the 1980s, either.  Both these cars were cynical shams and deserved to fail.  And somehow Toyota manages to get away with this same sort of shameless badge engineering with the Toyota Camry Deluxe, AKA the Lexus ES.  :facepalm:

I assume you actually see the difference. There's only been one generation of ES that was at Cimarron level:



Otherwise, interior and exterior designs have been totally distinct between same-market Lexuses and Toyotas. Platform sharing =/ badge engineering.

It wasn't a Cadillac Cimarron. It was The Cimarron by Cadillac.

GM never called it a Cadillac outright. Can't imagine why...
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

Heh heh heh, I had a friend in college who had an ES250. He was shocked about the number of similarities when he rode in my Camry. Except he had a CD PLAYER OMG
