The rear fender doesn't seem to be cohesive with the rest of the design.

Am I the only one getting that vibe?

It's ugly.

I wouldn't go that far. I just wasn't expecting something so...staid.

Do you mean the upper crease that flows toward the back? It's probably there to integrate with the Camaro taillight.

Yeah, it doesn't look like it's part of the same design.

The current Malibu is quite handsome (though the interior blows) but I'm not so sure about this.

I wouldn't say it blows. It's handsome enough design and I actually ended up really liking the soft aqua glow they project onto the center console as well as most controls and instruments. The material quality isn't as nice as some competitors and a couple pieces on the rental were misaligned (which could be because it was a rental, but it was really low mileage so I don't know), but otherwise it was decent all around. Certainly agree about the exterior styling though, the overall style (particularly in dark colors) looks nice except for the rear tail lights, which I think are just awful.

You're my age.  We're getting old.  Plus, now that you're married, your life expectancy has gone way down, since you're more likely to be poisoned by your wife.

Looks fine to me.

I think it's a pretty handsome, clean design. Nothing too shocking, which is good for a midsize sedan.

I still can't get over the render-y-ness of this picture. I think it's the grille; it just looks disproportionately large and ill placed on the front end, and the detailing of the grille itself is sort of off. And really, how big is that Chevy badge going to be? Also, the bar through the grille isn't centered, and that bothers me here just as much as it does on the Cruze.

Anyway, I'm more interested in the powertrains this car's going to offer than the appearance. Anyone heard or read anything about that?

All 4 cylinders. One is going to be turbocharged.  Output is still to be determined/verified by SAE.

The interior is wretched.  Far too much happening.  The exterior is very good looking in these pictures, but who knows if the press pictures will translate into real life.

The interior would look a lot better with a different color scheme.

I'm sure others will be available.

My issue with this car is the blocky taillights -- they just don't match.

68_427

4 interior combos available.  Not sure if that mean 4 for cloth and leather or 4 combined cloth and leather.  Only the LTZ gets the LEDs in the taillights also.

I'm liking the exterior more. The interior looks high quality, but very busy. And, although I love the blue/aqua glow in the current model, they're going a little over the top in this one.

I'm glad someone agrees with me. This car is like the Taurus in that it looks like two separate design teams worked on each end of the car by themselves until they finally met in the middle. Not a fan.

The exterior is far nicer than the Sonata, thank goodness, although the interior is rather overwhelming. Teal and orange stitching on a black and brown seat, for goodness sake? A more subtle trim would help greatly.

WookieOnRitalin

This is on the new platform yes? The last one was a stretched version of the old one?

I like it. Interior looks great, but the color scheme is not going to pull off well in the real world. Otherwise, well done.

Looks really nice -- but surely redundant given the amount of similar sized models that GM has?

Will be interesting to see if it sells well over here, providing they can be bothered to stick a diesel in it.

I may be redundant over in EU where the insignia is offered, but this car should offer quite a bit more room inside

The Malibu Eco has been announced that it gets 38 mpg highway. In addition, it's an add-on to existing trim levels, and not a seperate model like the Cruze is.

Any info as to why they didn't fit the eAssist to the new 2.5?

As of right now, the eAssist option hasn't been fully tested yet with the 2.5, which is why it isn't available just yet.  However, that may be an addition in the next model year assuming everything goes according to plan.
