I saw an up! in a department store recently. They're not that small actually. They're quite "huge" and wide. Thing is probably larger than a first and second (and even third possibly) generation Golf!

except for the rear end, I really like them

The rear end also bothers me. Especially those little emblems on the left side. Proper names have a capital letter at the beginning and don't end with a punctuation mark.

I like this thing. I'll check one out in ten years if they aren't all falling apart or dead by then.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

Not headed to our shores.

For reference an original Mk 1 Golf/Rabbit is over a foot longer than this.

S204STi

lol... yeah, that's huge alright.

CJ

Wimmer's not wrong, though.  It is quite large visually, but small in reality.

93JC

True. That's a product of the short overhangs, I think, and the generally blocky styling. It makes good use of its footprint, which is extremely important for a car like this.

Comparing it to the original Golf/Rabbit again its wheelbase is about an inch longer.

cawimmer430

Visually and in person this thing is quite "big". It has to be. It's amazing how modern cars have grown in size and nobody notices!

This was a European economy car in the '70s - small and cramped. I've seen the 50 in the Audi museum and it's tiny. The up! eclipses this thing in size.

The Up is only about an inch longer, inch taller and couple inches wider than the Audi 50.

That may be true but I understand what Wimmer is saying.  The Audi 50 looks dainty and delicate compared to the chunky Up.

You'd what-smash them?

Wait.  You don't know Teuton Smash?

It seems the original post was in the Chat Thread that someone deleted, but here's another post where I reference it:

I hate when "they" put exclamation points on car names.
