Also, the Abarth is fucking awesome (and I am not a fan of the regular 500). Any word on price point?

According to most sources, it'll be  well equipped for $23k, which undercuts the base MINI Cooper S by almost  grand, and by nearly 5 grand when comparably equipped (except for no heated seats in the Abarth, as apparently the heated seat switch requires having the automatic trans, and the Abarth is only getting the manual, at least for a while).

I may have to check it out come springtime. The Mustang may have to go away to make room...

Really?  You would sell the Mustang already?

Why not the Cooper?

"This commercial would be correct if the girl was a midget with down syndrome!"

I don't get this whole retro craze.  The car looks like crap.  Plus the car is like 4 years ago already.

it's only a thought. I like the Mustang, too, but the fuel use is ridiculous, even in comparison to the BMW (which will be back together by spring)

Why not the Cooper?

Leased and it's my wife's car. Can't go away until the lease is up.

If the Abarth was going to be available in convertible form, I'd really be digging on it (or at least big sunroof form).

As for the retro craze, there are a lot of us who like the looks and love the days when cars were styled by design not by regulation. And while it may look similar to an older car, it looks NOTHING like most new cars, which is a bonus in an era when everyting is starting to me at least to look like crap. Especially when small cars are looking like crap (yaris? Prius? Accent? Elantra? I don't like the looks of any of them. I kind of like the Sonic and Fiesta, but I like the MINI and 500 much more).

I also like this one:

You don't buy a Mustang expecting good fuel economy.

NomisR

The Abarth was actually drawing quite a bit of attention, even from the older crowd at the LA Auto Show.

No, but I also didn't buy it to be my daily driver. My wife and I are commuting separately these days and it's actually kind of tiring to drive the Mustang as a commuter. Takes some of the specialness off of it.

You know what I don't get?

A year ago, everyone loved the 500 and 500 Abarth, and now that they're finally here, (and the 500 is doing well), everyone is avoiding them like the plague.

ChrisV

I still want one. I just can't own every car that I want. ;)

I saw a chocolate brown one, and I fell in love.

Out of curiosity, I went to my Chrysler dealer to see about them, and they didn't have their Fiat setup up and running yet. Now they do, and I have been getting calls to come in and take a look.

Maybe I should take them up on it.

I love the 500 Abarth and I would buy one right now if I didn't need a real back seat and a trunk.  If I could buy a car for every purpose the 500 Abarth would be my commuter car.

There appear to be two crazes afoot these days in car design: The aforementioned retro look and the "inspired by anime and sci-fi and drawn up by kids with ADHD and depth perception problems" craze.

Guess which one I prefer?
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

There's a whole Fiat dealership just down the street from me, where the Saturn dealership used to be. Huge lot full of 500s! I need to go test drive one sometime.

I didn't. I didn't get them at all. And now that I've taken one for a spin I really don't get them.

I can't say anything about the Abarth because I've never been in one.
