Oh so close!

Is there a car that the manufacturer got oh-so-close to what you are looking for, but not close enough to buy?  If you could tell that manufacturer to do one thing to the car to make it perfect, and they would do it, what would it be?

SVT666

For me, it would have to be the CTS sedan and wagon.  I would love to buy one right now, but the only V8 available has 556 hp and starts at $65,000.  I would tell Cadillac that they should drop the LS3 in it and back it up with a 6 speed manual and an optional dual clutch transmission with paddles.  A 425 hp Cadillac CTS sedan or wagon would be absolutely perfect and I would sell my soul to get the cash to buy one.

I wanted a no-frills, cheap Fiesta hatchback, but they were all loaded-up, overpriced, and with too many doors. Hence, the Accent.

A 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS

If they'd used the V6 front end, gave it the V6 ride height, and the V6 gauges, along with a better steering rack, I'd have bought one instead.

Mazda 2, I love the handling, the styling, and the interior functionality.

But that engine and transmission is a huge miss. The gearing is all wrong; too short and too close. Then the engine is too weak for it's own good. I need at least 15 more HP.

Challenger  -   make it a convertible.  If they did that I might seriously consider buying an SRT

There might not be enough difference between your dream CTS and the CTS-V for it to be a viable product.

Yeah, a CTS-V is relatively cheap.

The step between the 306 hp V6 CTS and the 556 hp Supercharged V8 is too big.

Seriously... they need a ~400 hp V8 in there, without the sporty bits of the V to differentiate it so it wouldn't cannibalize V sales.

Problem is GM doesn't have a proper luxury car V8...

But the price difference between a regular V8 CTS and the CTS-V might not be large enough. Or, the performance gap might not be large enough. Either situation would mean GM is not going to sell a regular V8 CTS.

IS300 with the 2JZ-GTE engine with the Getrag/Toyota V160 6 speed from the Supra Turbo instead of the 2JZ-GE engine from the Supra NA and the W55 5 speed.

That car would absolutely own.  Why Toyota! Why didn't you stuff the 2JZ-GTE into every car it would fit in like Nissan did with the VQ engine???

TSX Wagon, it really needs a stick or a V6. Bought it anyways.

I didn't state there had to be a business case for it.

First of all, there is a $30,000 surcharge for the CTS-V so there is definitely room pricewise.  Second of all the gap in performance from the V6 to the V is huge and there is plenty of room for another engine opton in there.

An LS3 minus the bodywork and racy suspension of the V for a $5,000 price premium and Cadillac has a winner...and a buyer in me.

There is room pricewise, but would the LS3 fall in the middle? If you have a CTS-V with an LS3 instead of the LSA, it'd only be a little cheaper than the CTS-V. If you just swapped the LS3 into a regular CTS, it'd be cheaper but would the regular CTS suspension be fine with the power boost?

GM just announced that the regular CTS can be upgraded with the CTS-V suspension, spoiler, and other interior bits. It'd be a little odd to have one option package give you certain parts from the CTS-V and then another package upgrade the engine (but not as much as the V series). Would the suspension and stuff be available on the LS3 model? Seems like that would be encroaching on the V's territory a little bit.

Seems like the best option would be for you to buy a regular CTS and do the swap yourself.

I'm trying to think of a car I love but for one or two flaws but I'm having a hard time thinking of one. I guess i I like a car enough I'm willing to look past a few packaging quirks.

I think you're being nitpicky over the CTS. Either get the 300hp version, or get the V (maybe used). Though I say this as someone who wouldn't buy a CTS if it could give blowjobs.
