My current top ten possible Jetta replacements

Colin

No-one's suggested this one yet, so I think need to............

Abarth 500.

OK, it's not rear wheel drive, but the handling is great as it has a wheel in each corned. It's a fabulous car. I could imagine Raza in one of those.

Raza

Sorry Colin; way too sensible, front drive, and not a sports car.

It's probably worth a test drive, at least. Not everyone loves them, but a lot of people really do.

Colin

Go test one and then see............... the grin factor starts when you fire it up and hear the exhaust (even better if it has a Monza on it!).

You may just be surprised.

Hmm, not my first choice, but I saved it on my Autotrader account.  Not a bad car, really.  Saw one on the road today, really zipping through traffic.  Looked good.

Out of all of these cars you're considering, don't see how the Z4 isn't top of the list, honestly. It's fast, handles like a champ, competent interior. Reliability is decent. Is it a Honda? Nah. But who cares. I could never imagine buying a car based on hypothetical repair costs 100K miles from now.

As long as you're willing to concede to buying a water pump at some point, go for it. It didn't scare me away when I was looking at Bimmers a few months back. At the end of the day, you'll enjoy driving this car more than any other. There are really no compromises with the Z4.

How do you know he'll enjoy a Z4 over a S2000?

Dan is just a huge snob.

Not necessarily. I just don't see why the spartan S2K would be considered a better daily driver than a Z4.

I couldn't say anything about how comfortable the S2000 is, compared to the Z4, but the S2000 would probably be more fun.

It's not very good looking.

Well, that's subjective. I think it has a better look than the S2K. Close, but the Z4 edges 'er out IMO.

Purchase the Jetta, wait a little, and get something fun and impractical.

Or an A3 if he wants something a little more luxurious. I really like the Golf platform.

I think if you get something used it should be only one or two years old, so it will be 10 years old in 2020 when you are ready for another one.  Like thissssss http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?zip=75093&endYear=2013&showcaseOwnerId=25740584&startYear=2010&makeCode1=AUDI&listingType=used&bodyStyles=CONVERT&searchRadius=0&maxPrice=30000&listingId=318922187&Log=0

The Golf R is at least 15k more than he wants to spend.

Well it's in his list so that's not my problem, maybe he needs to work a little harder.

I've been in an A3. I didn't find it any better screwed together than my car. In fact, I like my car's interior styling more. IMO, the A3 is a properly stupid buy against a 4-door GTI.

Isn't the A3 a little softer?

If I keep the Jetta now, I'll be really underwater next year.  I'm even, and it'll depreciate faster than I will be paying down the loan.  So far, I haven't been swayed from the S2000.

And Sporty, go fuck yourself.
