All mechanically are pretty much the same. Same 2ZZ producing ~180HP mated to a six-speed manual. I didn't include the Celica GT-S, due to the fact it would definitely be a landslide.

I like all three, definitely some hidden sleepers in them.

J86

matrix.  i like waggony things, and its not a pontiac

CALL_911

Matrix XRS. I remember thinking they were cool when they came out. Then they lost the Celica VVT-i engine and sucked.

Matrix. I still have a dealership to work on it.

Out of the three, the Corolla is the rarest and cheapest. I really, really like them. Might just be my next car.

93JC

Probably the Pontiac, which is cheapest.

Gee, 'cause we've never heard that one before...

For a split second, I forgot this car was in the poll.

You need to add an "I'd rather take public transportation." option to the poll.

It's a Toyota, it shouldn't break, right?

My brother has put 80K (from 40K when he bought it) on his 2003 LE automatic and he's only done brake pads and oil changes. Spectacularly low maintenance.

Oh come on. They're probably the last moderately-exciting Toyota until the FT86. 8200RPM redline not enticing to you?

Oops. Just looked at the photos. And read the word Corolla. Maybe they aren't that bad.

Raza

Matrix.  It's the best looking of the group.  I wanted to go Pontiac, just to be anti-Toyota, but the Vibe just looks too much like a bland version of the Aztek that was left in the dryer too high.

Cookie Monster

Corolla XRS.

Just to say I drive a Corolla with an 8200 rpm redline.

Or if you don't mind RHD, have a Corolla Sportivo:

Byteme

Where is my "none of the above" option?

CRRRRRA XRS. As cool as it is to like wagons I just don't like the looks of the Matrix/Vibe. Corolla is boring but can be OK

Vinsanity

That generation Corolla is actually pretty nimble, and dare I say, lively. Combine that with the 8000-rpm Celica mill, and it'll put a smile on the face of even the most die-hard Toyota hater.

Challenge accepted.  Buy one for me, ship it to me, and I will see.

I'd have to vote Corolla (biased). I've never cared for the styling of the Matrix/Vibe.

Just as long as I don't have to look at it. The bumper makes it look like the face of the car has had its jaw torn off.

You're going to have to buy your own, bud, but I don't see why not. It's lighter than the Jetta, with a better power-to-weight ratio, and a rev-happy engine. Even the regular Corolla of this generation has a bit of a playful character; its steering is quick to react, and it doesn't hesitate to change direction.

sportyaccordy

Only glaring flaw is the stupidly high VVL engagement point. It's like coming out of VTEC in every gear. And I'm not sure there's a fix for it.

I would definitely consider it.
