Hi.  Wanted to introduce myself. 

I'm 38, married, with kids.

Love everything about cars but sadly don't know how to work on them other than changing a tire.  Maybe one day I'll learn.

Quick list of cars I grew up with, cars I drove but didn't own, cars I've owned, and current cars (with some comments)

71 chevy nova - looked real cool.  didn't start when it rained
77 ford granada - drove real quiet.  rusted very quick
81 ford pinto - nice litte car.  didn't realize at the time how unsafe they were.  only had an am radio.
84 chevy celebrity - (drove this one) 4 cylinder.  a lot of car in terms of size for cheap.  made cheap though.  speedometer from day one didn't   
     hold steady.  only driver side side view mirror.  slow...could hardly pass a truck on the highway and forget about it in the hills.
87 mercury sable - (drove this one) i thought it was awesome in terms of looks and quality until it hit about 60 thousand miles where
     everything, and I mean everything, fell apart. 
89 dodge daytona (drove this one) - loved this car, especially the pop-up headlights, even if it was underpowered.  put around 200 thousand
     miles on it.
96 ford taurus (drove this one) - i actually liked the styling despite its many detractors.  i have nothing bad to say about this car other than
     maybe the standard small skinny tires it came with.  people always said it was junk compared with a camcord but i thought it looked better
     from the outside
98 mazda protege (owned this one/split driving it with my wife) - nice little car that was peppy.  only thing bad about it was that it felt small
     and hence vulnerable on the highway.  no fault of the car itself.  traded it in at 80,000 miles because i didn't want to invest in fixing front
     end damage due to an accident
2003 mazda 6i (owned this one/ i mostly drove it) - i loved how this car looked and how it handled.  only reason i wouldn't buy it today would
     be the lack of stability control and the 4 cylinder was buzzy/noisy especially when the car was full.  car was sadly totaled at 55,000 miles
     due to a van hitting me while I was on the highway.
2006 toyota rav4 limited 6 cylinder (owned this one/family car/wife's car) - everything about this car on paper should have been great.  super
   fast, handled pretty well, good stereo.  i hated this car though.  i think it was the light green color my wife chose and the car was just not a
   quiet smooth ride on the interstate.  it was bumpy.  when driving with the family in tow i don't want something which necessarily handles
   real well.  i'd  much prefer something that's real quiet and smooth because my significant other gets peeved when i drive aggressive (it's
   that whole mother/child thing; if you're married and have kids - you may relate.) Also the acceleration at low speeds was very jerky.  sold it
   at 38,000 miles.
2009 buick enclave cxl awd color: black (currently own this one/family car/wife's car) - just love this car.  it is so smooth and quiet and it
   looks great. feels like i'm in a car which costs 20 grand more (other than the cheesy fake wood on the dash).  it's so heavy it feels like a
   tank in a snowstorm (a good thing).  50,000 miles in 3 years.  financed it for 0% apr for 5 years.
2007 hyundai sonata limited color dark blue: (currently own this one/my car/ usually driving without the family in tow) - I dig the understated
    looks of this car especially with the aftermarket high quality tint I had put on.  plenty fast and quiet enough.  gas mileage isn't that great
    and wish it handled like my mazda 6i.  60,000 miles in 5 years.  paid off the car a while back.  nice to not have two car payments.

Thanks for all the hellos!  A few years ago I used to lurk every now and then on a car and driver forum in which, I don't remember exactly why, I was directed to this forum.  Then I used to lurk every now and then on this forum, and I figured that lurking was lame, and why not contribute.

My buddy had an '86 Daytona with the digital speedometer.  When we went on the highway, he used to love to bring it to three digits.

My friend does that all the time. He announces "ENGAGING OMEGA DRIVE!", and the speedometer suddenly jumps up 60%.
