That's stunning, however. Keep that interior. Change everything else.

^the interior does look very rich and elegant, yet still sporty for a mega luxury SUV/crossover. kudos to bentley for sure!

Stunning?!?  Rich and elegant?!?

Yea that interior is horrible.

And don't forget the suburban housewives, Eastern European business moguls and talentless celebrities. As well as other athletes. Black people aren't the only ones who are gonna buy this monstrosity

The interior is awesome as expected. The exterior, however needs a lot of work. There is definitely something to work with there, but I am of the opinion that the whole idea of a Bentley SUV is wrong in the first place.

Damn, before I saw the auto show pics, I thought it was just a bad photochop. Now it's just a bad joke.

And sadly, the worst part is that the design is actually very unimaginative. A $300k Bentley SUV is actually a clever idea, because let's face it, Real Housewives are going to want something new when the leases come up on their Cayennes. But coming from the same company that debuted the Continental GT in 2003, which admittedly looked quite attractive at the time, this looks like something that a Chinese upstart would try to sell in developing countries for $30k. Bentley really blew a big opportunity to come out with something hype-worthy.

Nah, it looks very nice.

I think they would do better if the SUV is around $200k (around the Continental series) than $300k.

I suppose it is a bit unimaginative, but I do really like the Range Rover-esque design (albeit, it should not be Range Rover-esque, because it is not a Land Rover, but oh well). They absolutely need to go back to the drawing board with the front, however, and I think they ought to move away from the circle headlights for this model, even if it shies away from the brand's style--and even then, the circle headlights don't work on the Mulsanne either.

Why?  They're not a sports car company.  Luxury has been their mission and that has included SUVs for years now.  Every luxury company has one or more except for Bentley and Rolls-Royce.  Why not?

They started out as a gentleman's sports car company and have grown their brand around that original idea (though modified to be much more luxury/sedan oriented). In my opinion (and that is what this debate will boil down to), it doesn't fit with that ethos. A Bentley should not be seen off-road, or with mud on the fenders. They are hand-built and crafted to be something more than that. Again, only my opinion, but I have sold a fair amount of them and know plenty of former clients who would be turned off by seeing one of these in the showroom.

IMO, they are betting heavy on China with this one, because I don't think many of these will move in the states. It will, ultimately, come down to price, but looking at that interior and how it is trimmed, I am leaning towards the 300k range.

Yeah, it seems to me that for the longest time, Bentley and Rolls resisted the luxury SUV trend because of the old traditional view that SUV's were unrefined trucks meant to perform dirty work that Bentleys and Rollses had no business doing. That's what Range Rovers were for, and Bentley and Rolls considered themselves above that level.

Because Bentley and Rolls Royce should be above such nonsense!

and the problem?  chuckle, chuckle...

one should keep in mind that the vehicle is merely a concept; thus, it will most definitely be upgraded significantly with authentic leather and real wood bentley's are famous for. the finish on the show car is too shiny to become a reality and looking at the center of the concept's dashboard is obviously non-functioning pieces. these concepts are primary for feedback from potential clientele. i was stunned when privileged (knowing dealership owners setting up displays) to check out a few concepts at a couple of auto shows "off hours". in doing this, i quickly learned that some interior pieces they use are painted clay, fabricated of cardboard, cheap plastics like dollar store toys and thin vinyl over foam pillows in place of bentley-grade leather and durable seat materials. damn, these cars photograph far better than they look in person, especially when getting close to the interior or even "sitting" inside -- something generally forbidden. some concepts have deep tinted windows for a reason... as many insides are not even finished.

my compliments pertained to what i think should translate from shoddy to highly polished, as with all production bentley's. sitting in any of these actual models takes your breath away, as i would expect from a road ready luxury car from bentley, rolls-royce, maybach, others...

sportyaccordy

I think if they toned down the design a bit inside and out it could look a LOT better.

i can bet this will happen. many first time concepts elicit shock value responses to encourage people to do exactly what we are doing here... talking about the company's product.

Exactly. And we saw how well that worked out for Maybach.

Bentley's "considering a redesign"

http://www.autoblog.com/2012/03/09/that-didnt-take-long-bentley-suv-redesign-already-in-the-works/

QuoteGuess we called this one from the outset. Looking like a Mulsanne that just ate a Continental Flying Spur for breakfast and a GT for lunch, the Bentley EXP 9 F concept was the biggest disappointment ? and we mean that literally ? of the Geneva Motor Show. Apparently, Bentley must have agreed with our headline, because it's working on a new design for it's first production SUV, according to Britain's What Car? magazine.

According to the report, Bentley officials have admitted that the design was "heavy handed" and have promised to tone it down, as the SUV heads toward a likely 2015 on-sale date. Potential changes include "slightly smaller" headlights, and "more traditional SUV proportions," according to the magazine's source.

We hope Bentley goes a bit further and just starts from scratch, dumping the sedan-ified SUV look entirely. If Bentley is bound and determined to sell an SUV, it should come up with something distinctive for the brand that doesn't just ape the classic look of its car line.

You either have very expensive taste in whores, or are only acquainted with such through Victorian era romantic novels.

you beat me to it, sporty  :banghead: (chuckle, chuckle). as i have said, that is the purpose of displaying a concept vehicle at an auto show. this SUV reminds me of the split reaction the chrysler imperial received when revealed just a couple of year's ago. chrysler shelved the project in favor of a complete redo likely to be spawned off of the 2011/12 chrysler 300C.
