Sub-Boxster Model Being Considered Again by Porsche

I wonder how Porsche would differentiate their version of this car from the VW and Audi versions. Otherwise, I would think the Audi/Porsche versions might overlap to some extent. I like the idea of a mid-engine VW two seat convertible, though, A LOT. If they announced it, I'd probably throw down a couple ground to pre-order one even now. I've been in love with the BlueSport since it was first shown as a concept.

In all fairness, the MR2 was a pretty good looking car.

I'd rather have a cheap sports car that's called a Porsche than a four door sedan and an SUV.

For everyone complaining, I don't think this is a finalized model yet.  Will it have a family resemblance?  No doubt.  But from the sound of the article, the project isn't even greenlit yet, so it's a bit early to be upset.  "Planned" cars don't always come to fruition.

Anyway, I'm interested.

Honestly, I think it would work. I know we have a lot of MX-5/Miata fans here, but let's face it, the car is outrageously dated. The MR2 is dead since Toyota decided to start making appliances instead of cars. The Solstice and Sky died with their respective marques. The Z4 is expensive. That leaves room for an affordable roadster that handles well, offers a nice interior and amenities and is made by a brand people trust.

If it's mid-engine, I'd consider that a quirky novelty, not a disadvantage.

I do think, however, that making VW, Audi and Porsche versions of the same car would dilute the market to an extent, though. Honestly, I think I'd go for the VW or Porsche version. Audi would probably design it like the TT, which never appealed to me.
