Suzuki to produce Fiat diesel engine on license for its own models UPDATE
10.20.2005, 06:18 AM

MILAN (AFX) - Suzuki Motor Corp signed a letter of intent to produce Fiat SpA's 2.0 JTD Multijet diesel engine under licence for its own cars, the Italian car maker said in a statement.

Initial production of 100,000 engines a year is scheduled to start in Asia in 2010, it said, adding that production could be further increased.

Fiat will provide Suzuki with the engines until the Japanese group starts its own production, as well as technology and training assistance.

Fiat's component unit Magneti Marelli will also supply Suzuki with fuel injection technology.

Yesterday, Suzuki said it is open to joint research and development initiatives with firms other than General Motors Corp, which controls the Japanese maker of small cars.

GM controls Suzuki?   Is this Fiat diesel any good?  If so, I hope they bring this bad boy over here.
