I shift between 1400 and 1650. Sometimes I start
in 4th gear. Revs are bad, mmmmkay.

Book for Miata says to not lug the engine= keep it above 2000 rpms. I often skip 3rd gear and go 1-2-4..
Riding at 3000rpms vs. 2000rpms is still the same gas mileage in that car. Which "sounds" weird- since most autos shift to keep it under 2k except top gear...

I just normally grab a truck off the lot.  For the last week, or so, I've been drving a 2010 GMC Yukon XL SLT w/70,000km (~43,000mi) & I've been getting about 13L/100km (~18mpg), which is about 75% highway/25% city.

I've owned a 2005 Honda Civic SE since new, but I rarely get to use it, anymore (my girlfriend has pretty much taken it over) & I (she?) routinely average 7.0-7.5L/100km (31 to 33mpg).  My best fuel economy for strictly highway driving was about 6.0L/100km (39mpg) & the worst I've ever seen (for mainly city drving) is about 9L/100km (26mpg)

I still got 29-30 mpg buzzing through tanks of gas at over 4000rpm when I moved back to Seattle.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

Yeah, I remember getting about that mileage no matter how hard I thrashed it.

My friend got about 25-26 before he put his turbo on, I'd be surprised if he's getting more than 20 now.

The PO of mine gave me his fuel and maintenence logs when I bought the 95 M edition off him.  He regularly got 22-23 MPG.  I get 28-30 and drive fairly fast and hard.

MrH

30 mpg last tank.  Worse tank is 27 mpg, best is 33 so far.  Pretty happy with the gas mileage for a car that's this fun and runs a Cougs-approved sub-15 sec 1/4 mile :praise:

21.4 mpg lifetime thus far; not bad for 3,850 lb, AWD and high 13 sec 1/4 mile...

The Sonata's average is hovering around 26 MPG, mostly city. Pops doesn't drive like a maniac.

AutobahnSHO

Used to always get 23mpg driving to work in the Subie. Right now it's at 154541 miles. Just filled up so I can drive it on the new motor (60day warranty, gotta make sure there are no issues) and see the mileage..

Wow, the worst I got was 18.8 mpg and that was my very first tank. I've gotten a reliable 21 - 22 mpg per tank since.

My commute is full of many lawful and complete stops. It is short but makes for terrible em pee gees.

It's ok.  That just means you're enjoying the car more.  Glad to see you aren't just an automated Ayn Rand bot

Put on a whopping 1,600 km in the last two weeks of just driving around the Munich region on business. Three fill-ups.

12 complete stops over 5 miles, never got above 30mph. Average speed is in the teens. No wonder I am terrible for the Earth.

Yikes. I just had the worst tank I've ever had: 19 mpUSg (12.38 L/100 km). Terrible traffic, cold and snow conspired against me.

It's a 2.2L. I asked about swapping in a 2.5 but he said you have to get a new computer and other assorted bits.  He said the 2.2 is more longterm reliable, the 2.5 eats headgaskets.

Also curiously he said he had to do extra searching around for the motor, used to be more plentiful.

Accelerating hard is 50% of the fun.  The other half is hard turns.  Going fast is just a byproduct.

I disagree slightly, as I think going fast is, perhaps, 5% of the fun.
