This is going to be an interesting winter if the snow does pick up.  I'm not worried about RWD in snow; as long as accumulation is less than 2" and my car can actually clear it, I remember how to drive rear drive cars in snow.  It's the tires.  My boss was like "Why don't you change from your summer tires?" and I was all like "Will you let me store my tires at your house, or did you want me to throw away eleven hundred dollars?"

I just kept them in the spare room at my apartment.

If I didn't have a spare room, I'd probably just keep them in my bedroom

I have an appointment at the local CTC shop to get the snows put on my wife's car on Thursday morning.  The problem is, they're forcasting a snow storm here lasting tomorrow and Thursday.  Hope I don't get stuck on the way to the shop .

Don't have a spare room and I don't want my bedroom to smell like tires all the time.  I don't even think I'd have enough room in my bedroom for a tower of tires, based on how my furniture is set up.  It's a big apartment, but the bedroom is on the small side.  With a full dresser, queen bed, nightstand, and standing lamp, you've just got enough room to walk around comfortably.

Doesn't have to be in your bedroom. Just stick 'em in a corner of the apartment.

I think there is a business opportunity in holding spares sets of tires & wheels for customers.

We can call it "storage unit".

No, it needs fancy branding and services that they don't need, like tread checking, valve stem replacement, patch repair and all sorts of cross promotional goodies.....

Other Kevin, I know it was a joke, but now it's starting to sound like an almost valid business proposition....

I think it's a totally good idea. @_@

Yeah.

It's a service done by the tire shops, and they do all kinds of upselling crap. 2o6 was pretty spot on. The basic business model is that they get to sell you new tires when they need replacing, though.

Hmmm.

Interesting concept.

I am assuming something like a normal tire shop, but one that will also store your persona seasonal wheels and tires?
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Yup. Did I just make some carspinners rich?

Probably not, as I don't own a tire shop, and not many people around here swap tires seasonally anyways.

I haven't figured out if I want snow tires for my El Camino or just keep the current Radial T/A type things on it for winter. Eventually I'll get some 17/18 inch wheels with nice performance tires, so I'll keep my current wheels for winter. But I'm not sure if it snows enough to justify dedicated snows, plus I'm not sure how much I want to drive it in the snow anyway (don't want to fix the rust and then have it come back...)

Do they make a good cold-weather tire that is better than an all season in snow but better on dry pavement than snow tires?

MX793

I've found that snows have better dry-pavement grip in freezing temperatures than my all seasons did.

That's another benefit of winter tires.

Raza

Drove through the snow on my summer tires today.  I was alright, but it was a nervous ride.  Not much on the ground, a little slush when changing lanes, but it was an ordeal nonetheless.  Mainly worried about braking distances and dickheads cutting in thinking that you don't need room to brake when it's icy outside.
