Wasn't Golf 2 with two sets of round headlights, or only the GTI, GTD models?

The 4 front headlights were found on the GTI/GTD, and I think also on some special editions. Other Golfs had them as an option, where you could choose from a fog light, or a special long distance light. Then there was the Golf Country which had 2 headlights, plus 2 off road lights or whatever there called.

:hesaid:

Mk IIIs sucked. I have known a few people who had one (or a Jetta) and none had anything nice to say about their Mk III.

I had one.  First car I ever bought brand new.  It was fine.

I owned the Golf first, then traded it for a GTI VR6.  The odd thing was the Golf was red and I got all sorts of tickets in it.  The GTI was black and I was never bothered, and I drove that one much harder.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

nickdrinkwater

Only the Mk2 GTI had twin headlamp sets.

The Mk3 was a dog but the VR6 was a nice cruiser.

I saw the new Golf VII yesterday. It was a white 5-door version. Looks sharp.

V..

...looks more like VI...

... then III...

... does to IV....

?

I, and II are also very similar, the Golf styling has always been evolutionary.

2o6

No, V, VII and VI are very, very similar. More similar than the relationship between the changes from II to III and III to IV.

From a technical relationship VI, and VII are on completely different platforms.

And they look the same, which IMO is not good.

III, and IV also practically look the same, even though with the IV the Golf made the biggest jump in refinement, probably for the entire compact car industry.

III and IV don't look similar at all. There's a huge jump between III and IV, especially in the Jetta/Vento/Bora line.

Again:

Just look at the Golf "IV" cabrio, which is actually a facelifted Golf III.

I don't think 1, 2 and 3 looked very similar at all. The front of the 1 and 2 are similar but that's it, everything else is different.

I can see where Galaxy is coming from when he says the 3 and 4 are similar as well, but I still feel that 5,6 and 7 are way more similar than the rest of the lineup. Just IMO.

5 and 6 look very different.  From what I've seen, 6 and 7 do look similar, though.

5 and 6 look very different? Whose crack are you smoking? 6 was merely a 'refresh' of 5. It's the exact same car underneath.

What does the platform have to do with the styling?  The Phaeton and the Continental GT are on the same platform, have you ever mistaken one for the other?

There's no angle where I've ever mistook the MkV for the MkVI or vice-versa.  That's different enough.

Other than a few details they look exactly the same. It's pretty hard for me to miss that they're the exact same size, have the exact same proportions, etc.
