But even gold connectors are bullshit.  In a golden (pun intended?) world, all connectors would be silver.

In automotive connectors, the best ones are gold, because it's a good self-lubricating metal, apparently.  Prevents fretting-corrosion.  For home electronics, I bet fretting-corrosion isn't an issue though, so I'm sure you're right about silver being the good stuff.

They use $.25 rubber hoses in the most exotic engine bays. (But mark them up probably 5000%)

What does it matter??

But if it's for military applications, the same $0.25 rubber hose would have cost $250 each.

I think silver would still have issues if it was mated with a different metal.

And with gold, if you're ever short on cash, just take to your nearest Gold for $$$$ place and cha ching!

Silver corrodes. Gold does not.

I know people say there's no difference, and I trust that, but something feels completely wrong about putting a 1 dollar cable into a 2k dollar TV.

I feel way dumber spending more than $15 for a six foot cable meant to transmit a digital signal.

Same here. A digital signal is there or it's not. As long as the 1s and 0s make it from point A to point B you're golden.
