Dave in an R8. Hmm. Probably the most appropriate supercar for his personality type, I think.

Not happening...totally impractical.  But I was behind one on the road yesterday.  It was driven by a grandpa who was going about 2 mph and constantly hesitating.

Yeah, that's what my grandpa regretted in his waning years; that he could have made more practical choices in automobiles.

Mathematical argument for the S6 upgrade:
S6 net horsepower gain over A6 3.0T: +110   (you best not be caught buying anything less than the 3.0)
S6 net torque gain over A6 3.0T: +81
S6 top speed gain over A6 3.0T: +25
S6 0-60 acceleration gain over A6 3.0T: +0.8 seconds faster
S6 combined fuel economy from A6 3.0T: -2 mpg worse
A6 3.0T price advantage over S6: -$17,450 (when reasonably equipped)
Price of happiness gained by S6 vs. A6: +∞

Net advantage for S6: +∞

I mean, you can't argue with that voodoo math Dave. It's airtight.

Dunno about the blind allegiance to the S6. Most all reviews I've read say the A6/A7 is a better package than the S6/S7, noting that the 8sp AT in the former is so much more responsive and smoother than the DSG in the latter that the real-world performance gap is much narrower than the numbers suggest. I'd definitely test drive the dickens out of the S6.

Well then, clearly the only solution is to step up to an RS7 to get the 8-speed automatic.

I like the A7s looks, but I could see it aging terribly (the rear end). I'd probably take an S6 over an S7

:hesaid:

It lists at £82k in the UK - but compared to the £97k which BMW wants for an M6 Gran Coupe - another very very desirable car indeed - although it is pricey, it is not ridiculous for what you get. If only I could get our eco-conscious Fleet Mgmt dept to throw their principles away, and to give a more generous mileage reimbursememt, I am sure I could get the man maths to work... and if not, clearly Wizard could help me to prove that it would be financially sound!

Something about the A7's rear end reminds me of this

I think it'll age just nicely.

Dave should've definitely gone for the A7. But there's a reason he's rich and I'm not.
