Nirvana beats Elvis any day.
Never was a big Elvis fan.  My tastes ran more towards Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Clyde McPhatter; even Bill Haley and the Comets...and oh so many vocal groups, the Platters among the best.   :ohyeah: to the Everly Brothers as well.

Never heard/listened to Nirvana.  Wasn't the guy so depressed he killed himself?

Holy exposed gas tank, Batman!

Of course the advantage of the fins in this case was that if you rear-ended it, you would be decapitated before the gas tank exploded and burnt you to death.  Less pain. :praise:

That's a beauty!

The '51 Merc I had didn't really qualify as a Led Sled.  I just removed all the chrome, including the grille, and filled the holes with Bondo.  Did a quick aerosol spray to try and blend in the paint.

And it is a super cool name.

He did, so what's that say about my opinion of Elvis?

I can get on board with most of those guys (Everly Brothers, though?), but if that's all you listen to, then I think you missed a solid 60 years of awesome rock music.

I am quite happy, BTW, that a lot of the music I really like is apparently so offensive to the ears of older generations; I think it's a sign I'm doing it right.

The '50s were all about style and glitz...and Rock & Roll.
The '90s?  That's when the imported appliances took over and the Back Street Boys were polluting the airwaves.
60s had the best looking cars and the 70s and 80s had the best Rock'n Roll.  The Beatles were just a boy band with good songs.

There was a lot of good stuff through the '60s, '70s and '80s...The Band, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, The Eagles to name a few, and a bunch of Rhythm & Blues and Country flavoured rock.  But then, disco started to creep into the airwaves during the '70s and some other trashy sounding stuff that had no appeal to me.  I gave up and started buying cassettes of the stuff I really liked .

As for musical taste, I think our primary musical taste is formed during puberty.  I feel really sorry for those who went through puberty during a really bad time in music; like the Bieber Boppers of today :(.

The '60s were, definately, the best era for cars and everything to do with motorsport.  Stylewise, Italy produced some of the most beautiful cars in existance and other countries were almost as good.  In North America, it was all about muscle and style.  I good time for gearheads.

As for The Beatles, I never much cared for them; though they were immensely talented.  Give me The Stones any day.

The early Beatles may have inspired the same sort prepubescent following that the backstreet boys once did, or that bieber does today; they may have even turned out sugary ear-candy those first few years as well: But they wrote those songs, they played those instruments, and while doing so, they grew into the preeminent artists that they're remembered for. "A Hard Day's Noght" may not have had all that much up on a lot of pop music today, but does a few sugary pop hits matter when the same people later turned out "Rubber Soul?"
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Not me. When I was 10-12, I liked terrible pop country, then from about 13-17 I liked jam rock, then my musical taste finally matured. I almost never listen to the jam rock I used to like, and I haven't heard a pop country song in its entirety outside of a redneck store for years and years. I didn't really get into metal until 2010.

Well, maybe there was just a lot of great music when I was in my early teens.  However, the real Beatles fans seem to be guys a few years younger than me...like MiataJohn.

Not sure what you mean by pop country.  I turned off of country when it became new country.  Is jam rock that horrible sounding stuff with a screeching guitar that goes on forever?  I was at the gym this morning and they were blasting some godawful crap like that that gave me a headache...must've messed with my synapses.  I've got to get myself a MP3 player and load it up with The Kingston Trio, Gordon Lightfoot and The Band; and maybe a little George Jones.

Pop country is new country, but there is a lot of modern country that does not suck (see Wayne Hancock), so I don't use "new country", since it's a little vague on meaning.

Jam rock is The Grateful Dead and Phish, plus a bunch of other smaller bands.

The Band was incredible, but the rest of that list... Maybe I'll feel the same way about the crappy '90s "alt" rock like Garbage or whatever in 40 years, but I think it's pretty important to try to keep expanding your taste in music into modern acts (if not also modern genres) as you age. Otherwise you risk FOGism.

Too hard to pick between the Hudson, Buick and Mercury. The Ford is definitely the last I'd chose out of these four.

Once in a while I do hear something contemporary and I like it...but not enough to run out a buy a CD...or whatever the current media is now.  Oddly, my son is able to keep up with the contemporary genres and acts.  My daughter (who is a generation younger than him) and he can rattle on for hours about all the groups, acts, etc. from the last couple of decades and I don't have a clue who/what they're talking about.
