That's the exact 3er pic I was thinking of too. And Jesus, even the color, wheels and futuristic glass building!!!

The futuristic glass building is a great call.

Lol, the comments are Jalopnik are funny.  People are posting cars where it clearly knocks off other cars.  Pretty shocking stuff.

Are they copying a less severe lexus grill now too?

Absolutely there's a lot of he new GS/IS grill in the Q50. Thing is the GS/IS are relatively new so as you know especially the Q50's front end was designed well more than a year ago (maybe up to 2 years?). So, the question becomes, who stole from who? Hard to say.

The proportions remind me of a trimmer version of the old car, to me.

The new M had that grill before any Lexus.

This is seriously ugly.

GoCougs

Looks generic + F10 3er ripoff:

Looks fairly good - bulbous fenders, curvaceous hood:

Looks okay - a bit plain:

Looks okay - overall seems a step up from the G37 but I don't like the gauges (cluttered), don't like the joystick thingy and what it foretells, and not sure on all that LCD real estate (separate nav + button-replacing touchscreen):

Cookie Monster

I'm actually really liking the hybrid one. I want to see more colors.

If I got one I'd have to rebadge it as a G37 though.

My wish list:

1.) Better acceleration. With 330 hp and 7sp A/T the G37 should've been quicker. Whether they do it with more power, more gears, more aggressive gearing, or w/e, I'm not concerned about. Would rather not see F/I though.

2.) Better A/T. A number of performance-based 8sp A/Ts are getting rave reviews (BMW, Jaguar), and stated they overall are better than their DSG counterparts.

3.) Manual transmission in the AWD version.

4.) Better NVH and refinement. I found my '05 Accord to be better on a number of interior details (G though had a lot less rattling and buzzing).

5.) More aggressive rubber (size).

6.) Better resolution on options (Germans are way better than the Japanese at this).

It's actually proportioned well (very similar but better rear 3/4 than the F10, and much better proportioned than the current sedan IMHO), but that C-pillar kink is hideous, the headlights are an F10 ripoff, and the grille is a Lexus ripoff. Taillights are also kind of Sonata.

What the hell were you guys expecting?

Looks great, IMO. I wasn't expecting anything radically different from the existing G37, to be honest. I also think this car looks as good as the current car. The rear 3/4 view looks excellent. For the first time ever, if I were shopping in this segment, there's a good chance I wouldn't go with a 3er.

Agree 100%. The rear looks excellent, IMO, which is usually my sticking point when it comes to modern styling on a lot of vehicles. I actually think the accentuation near the fog lights improved the overall front look and gives the vehicle a better "stance" from that angle.

Also really liking the interior shots. Would have to see it in person to get a handle on the materials, gaps or lack thereof, etc., but I'm really liking it all around.

Cookie Monster

Interior looks way too fussy. Too many slashes and lines everywhere.

Rear 3/4 shot looks like a smaller M.  Nice.

Very curious to hear about the powertrains.  Will they keep the manual transmission?

Those are real photos?  I thought they were Maxima/Altima-based chops.

Really accentuating that Nissan connection, eh?

And they're sticking with the name scheme, I see.

Since when do luxury brands blatantly copy mainstream brands?

So what's the deal with that whole Mercedes alliance? I'm hoping this thing is gonna have a VQ rather than some 4-pot.

No manual, carryover powertrain (except for the hybrid).  "Infiniti Direct Adaptive Steering Technology" -- possibly steer by wire?  Disappointing.

Well, I imagine the Q5037xS will still have the VQ, but a lower end Q5020 will have a Mercedes 4.

Vinsanity

Speaking strictly of the exterior design, I prefer it over the new Lexus IS.

Curious to see how it compares dynamically against the BMW F30, Lexus IS, and Caddy ATS.

That's like saying "I prefer to be kicked in the nuts rather than have gonorrhea."

Well, yeah, no one really wants gonorrhea, but a swift kick to the sack isn't very pleasant either.

I've taken another look at some of these pictures and I've come around on the rear end, it actually looks pretty appealing shape-wise. The front end is still weird to me, and I very much do not care for it.

The G50Q37xS or whatever it'll be called is... a butterface! Nice ass, but otherwise...

SVT666

I really dig the rear end and side profile, but the current front end is nicer.

SVT666

SVT666

I'm starting to come around some on the front end, but I still think the current car's front end is better looking.

Looks like I'll get 5, likely 4, and that's it. Rather than address the other items Infiniti spent a lot of effort on a WORTHLESS hybrid option. Idiots.

GoCougs

And it does look a bit better IRL pictures. Still don't like the C-pillar kink. Interesting to note it's the same same length, a bit wider and a bit shorter vs. the G sedan, which IMO is the perfect size.

I actually like the styling on the outside. The interior is pretty boring to me and I am curious to see how their two screen setup is received. Disappointed that the VQ carries over and a launch without a strong base engine (or lower displacement) seems to be a mistake, both here and abroad. Though, I guess they say that will come later. The "performance" hybrid concept has always seemed kind of silly to me.

Difficult takes a day, impossible takes a week.

GoCougs

If it's not the VQ than what would it be???
