Catman

This looks pretty nice. Price looks good too. Wonder how 40 less HP feels?

Wow, that's still more expensive than mine was...

Catman

Seems like a good price point.

Yeah, I just hadn't realized how much more expensive they've gotten. Parents bought mine for <$30k.

Big drop in performance that isn't accompanied by an increase in gas mileage at a lower cost that isn't low enough.  This looks like an entry level phone; exists to push people up to the better model.

That's my problem with it.

(IIRC, the E46 330i had roughly the same gas mileage as the 325i)

If I was looking for a car in this segment, I would want a 320d.

Article I read is quoting 7.1 seconds to 60 (dusted by my old Jetta).  I saw a 328i tested at something ridiculous like 5.6 seconds.  It's not that 7.1 seconds is slow or anything, it just seems like the marginal cost (and this is before factoring what will no doubt be a deficiency in standard features) of the 328i will be more than made up for in a lot of ways.

BMW already sells the 320i here; starts at C$35,900 by comparison. The 328i is $7,700 (21%) more.

The drop in performance is much less than you think. This car has been available here for a while and the local mags have tested it. It is less than a second slower to 60 than the 328i and plenty fast. It's the same 2.0L engine as the 328i just detuned slightly. Mark my words, when C&D tests this it will easily get to 60 below 7 seconds.

The 7.1 secs is the official BMW N/A time, always conservative. In real world tests here, this easily keeps up with an A4 2.0T. An it's rear wheel drive. And better. In every way.

"Badge snob posers should just buck up and buy a Camcord."

(= The reason why stripper Audis/MBs/BMWs historically haven't been sold here for decades.)

CJ

I'd rather have a nicely optioned 320i than an Accord or a Camry.

CJ

But I'd have a C250 over both.

CJ

Or maybe not.  It's too expensive.

Sure, that's you, and that represents ~2% of the market probably. Base/stripper 3ers are for girls and dudes that work in marketing. They're MUCH better off materially speaking w/Camcord (i.e., still nice, fairly quick w/V6, more reliable, better resale, and cheaper to maintain).

I dont like the non m-sport 3ers anymore... But with the msport package it looks like sex on wheels

I could never buy thuis though even if it had an msport package because I would never let myself own a 4banger bmw

I agree with cougs. A 320i only exists so you can buy into the brand. There's no reason to really go with one other than image reasons.

If they made a 120i, maybe I could, and would a new Bimmer.

Might as well keep playing that game and just buy a Geo Metro for $1000 then.

Eye of the Tiger

I was at the BMW dealer last night, and the model that really caught my eye was the new M6. Sticker was only $117K, an excellent value for an entry-level family coupé. I don't understand why BMW even has 3- and 1- series models.
