The RPF1 looks weird. Like someone took a wheel center an inch smaller and adapted it to a bigger rim size.

Those look goofy. RWD cars shouldn't have wheels that look like they pop out like that.

Volk RE30? Won't that end up running you over $2k?

As far as tires, these will be summers only, right? If you're not going to be auto-xing too much, I'd go with Continental DW. If you want to auto-x or track your car, Direzza ZII, Hankook RS3 or BFGoodrich Rival.

Idiots. Or hardparkers who will never ever damage their wheels.

BTW even the OZ's are $350+ for 17" wheels and 18's are like $450 per wheel. :mask:

If you are going to track or auto-x the car I'd stay away from wheels that are expensive to replace. At $200 a wheel I'm not going to cry too hard if I break a K4R at the track.

I'm probably gonna get Rivals for my car. The Detroit Speed guys are running them on their cars now and get sweet autocross times.

I've been following the Rival vs Direzza ZII very closely and I've got mixed feelings on it. One one hand, the Rival is cheaper (about $15 cheaper for the size I want) but they don't have a lot of sizes, whereas the Dunlops come in way more sizes. In the dry, the Rivals are supposed to be slightly faster, but not by much, and in the wet, the ZII's are supposed to be amazing so I think they've got the Rivals beat out on that.

Plus, I've been reading on miata.net and some other sites that since the Rival only have 7/32 tread depth, that makes them illegal for a lot of SCCA races that require more than 7/32 depth. Not really a big deal for a DD but something to consider. I was also talking to a guy who autocrosses a heavily modified BRZ on ZII's and he says the Rivals won't last as long as the ZII's, but I guess time will tell if that's true or not.

I think it's like picking between two super models. There's a few differences, but either way you still end up with a super model.

I'm usually kind of biased to BFGoodrich since my dad used to sell them and has a few connections with them.

Basically. Since I'm not into SCCA stuff, I'd look at what's better in the wet and which one would last longer. I'm really interested in the Rival because of the price. I've always wanted the Hankook Ventus RS-3 because it's about $25 cheaper than the ZII, but the Rival is only $7 more than the RS3 while having a higher treadwear rating. I think ultimately RS3's have more grip but wear out far quicker than the other two.

Speed and times on the auto-x course or track don't bother me. I have a lot more learning to do before the difference between those two tires would make any difference to me. However I think if I replaced my DW's with the Rival or ZII I could knock off another 2 seconds or so from my time.

I actually like these a lot. They would look cool against the blue, especially if the car was lowered. For tires, I would go with Michelin Super Sports. Best compromise between high performance and durability (you drive this car daily IIRC), since they have an ultra high wear rating due to their tech.

In the end man, go with what you like. You will be the one living with the car, not us. With all the sets of wheels I have ever gotten, there was always one that caught my eye.

I don't like the steering feel that much (they have slightly squishy sidewalls) but they have a lot of dry grip and are amazing in the rain. A lot of auto-xer's I've talked to use them in the rain.
