I got to 0 in the Passat a couple of times (never by design).  That was the last car I had with a rangeometer.

Your Z4 has one. Just press the little BC button on the left stalk until you get to it. I am pretty sure all BMWs have the on board BC that includes the range estimator.

Yup mine has it.

I neglected to look at the fuel gauge once before I drove over a mountain pass.  I had to pit it in neutral and coast down all the hills and I pulled into the gas station with 1 km left on the Range.

GoCougs

The G has an awesome 20 gallon take but will show "0 miles" with ~2 gallons left.

Hmm, I'll have to check that out tonight when I go to drive home.

This is what happens when you buy a car that doesn't have an owner's manual.

The corvette just says "low" after a certain point and I've gotten there. I think almost all cars build in an idiot buffer to these types of warnings as well as the fuel gauge itself.

If it's like the Caddy, then it'll just say "low" once it gets below 40 miles. At that point, I just reset the trip meter to keep track, and fill up on my next trip home.

I routinely get to 0 miles left in my G, but I've never been able to put more than 17 gallons in.

Thread revival time!

Some minor irritations about my Passat wagon are.......

1.  The release buttons for the rear hatch and the fuel filler, located inside the driver's door, are the same size and shape and are located right next to each other.  I'm forever opening the fuel door when I meant to unlock the rear hatch and vice versa.

2.  Automatic door locks.  I REALLY HATE this so-called "feature".  The doors self-lock at around 5 MPH and don't automatically unlock when you stop and put the transmission into "Park", which would make sense.  This is really annoying when you have to pull up somewhere to pick up passengers.  Every manufacturer seems to have the obsession with automatic door locks and it really pisses me off.  If I want my doors to be locked, I will lock them myself, dammit!!!!!

In every car I've been in with the auto locking feature, it automatically unlocks too. I hear you with the fuel door button/trunk release, my mom's car has the same thing. That said, after using it more than a few times, it quickly became a non-issue

My Jetta doesn't automatically unlock when you stop and pit it in park, or even when you turn the car off.  The doors will open from the inside even when locked.  But when stopping to pick someone up, like at an airport, you have to hit the unlock button to let them in.

And I much prefer unlatched fuel doors in general, regardless of release switch location.  Nothing more frustrating than the fuel door freezing shut due to ice and you can't pry it open because of the latch.

I'm pretty sure the not automatically unlocking thing is intentional. Clearly it would be pretty easy for man manufacturers to program them to do such a thing, but what is the benefit? How often are you picking up people from the outside after driving around? And is it particularly difficult to unlock it yourself?

Also, not a big fan of the door unlock button in the center.

American vehicles with auto locking automatically unlock when you put the car in park.

It's slow, the handling is mushy, it takes too long to heat up in the cold. The transmission shifts too harshly and too late. The seats have heard about he concept of lateral support, but thy want nothing to do with it. The chrome is oxidized. The spot of rust at the edge of the wheelwell is increasingly worrisome. The tailgate has never quite worked 100% right.

Other than that, it's perfect.

Maybe just have them automatically lock when you enter high crime areas.

On my Prius the two main irritants are the rattly dashboard and the truly terrible cheap radio/speakers.
The Mercedes would be the unusable COMAND system and the driver's side seat belt mechanism that needs replacing ($700)

I don't dislike anything about the M5 other than its reputation for fragility that makes every drive more exciting by not knowing if a $5,000 part will fail. So far, so good. Everything works.

I am in love with that car. Best I've ever owned.

Cars that unlock when you put it into park are ridiculous. If the doors are automatically going to unlock, it should be when you turn the engine off, not when you put it in park.

And since I don't have a car that automatically locks, it's a feature I do miss.

I hate that. When I stop the car, I don't want the doors to unlock. Sometimes you pull over and put the car in park to set your GPS or something and if you live in a city you don't want those doors unlocking.
