Good one.  Still watching the reruns.

I think the whole series is on Netflix in the US.

Pulp Fiction is on AMC right now.  I'm sure most remember the Nova, the Chevelle, and the NSX but there is also some other good gems in the movie too.

Watched "The Island" tonight.  Some interesting cars along with Scarlett Johansson

Saw Carrie last night.

Question: Was this a diesel-powered Delta 88? The exhausts are aimed downwards.

I remember my grandpa having one that was silver and came with the 305 I believe.  Too bad Carrie didn't burn that car.

Most American cars had downturned and/or concealed exhausts in the 70s and 80s.  Even performance cars like the Mustang, Camaro, and Trans Am.

My exhaust is both concealed and downturned.

I must drive a diesel. :mask: (it does have enough torque to be one.. missing the gas mileage benefits however)

I haven't been able to find any evidence to back up my memory, but I believe that the Olds diesels had a rectangular silver "diesel" badge on the trunklids.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

I believe you are right.  Even came with a diesel hood ornament I believe.

Wow. Talk about "neutered performance" cars with a downturned exhaust.

I asked because I remember how not to long ago, diesel-powered Mercedes' cars had their exhausts turned down, especially the W124/W126 range.

Turned down or concealed exhausts versus prominently exposed exhaust outlets is largely an aesthetic feature (though I suspect sometimes they were chosen because they were cheaper).  It has no meaningful impact to performance.  Diesels likely do it so that they aren't blowing soot directly at the cars behind them.  Other times it's a styling thing (some think it looks cleaner).  I don't think I've ever seen a BMW 7-series with visible exhaust pipe outlets.

It's definitely a styling thing. And regarding older diesels, I believe it was definitely done so that soot wouldn't be blown towards the trailing cars.

Down-pointing-exhausts just look... "silly" to me.
