Chrysler's SRT brand has unwrapped its latest Viper GT3-R race car.

Developed through a collaboration between SRT Motorsports and Riley Technologies of Mooresville, N.C., the GT3-R is essentially a hard-core track version of the road-going Viper.

In order to ready it for world competition, the GT3-R features new bodywork that is more aerodynamic than the standard Viper's. The race car also sports upgraded brakes – six-piston up front and four out back – and a multi-disc race clutch designed to handle prolonged use of the GT3-R's V10 engine.

Shifting duties are handled by an Xtrac six-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters.

"The SRT Viper GT3-R is the next logical progression of our successful Viper GTS-R, a championship-proven formula that has captured some of the world's most prestigious races," Ralph Gilles, President and CEO - SRT Brand and Motorsports, said. "Like every Viper race car, the GT3-R is a direct descendant of the SRT Viper street car."

SRT is currently taking orders for the Viper GT3-R, with the first deliveries scheduled for later this year. Prices for the GT3-R start at $459,000, or more than 4.5 times more than the standard Viper.

I think the only place to put a bag would be on the passenger side floor, which might cook all of your food after a few minutes.

This new design is dope. I love how they've kept up on the old GTS-R roof shape.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

Looks like it's back to the drawing board based on their performance at Le Mans so far.

The cars competing at LeMans this year are older GTS-Rs.  This new GT3-R isn't competing this season.

Damm.

I thought it was the new one, since it is the first Viper at Le Mans since a few years, and it looks like the new Viper.

I say "older", really it's current.  The cars running are the latest GTS-R, based on the current Viper.  The GTS-R was built for ALMS GT class racing.  I get the impression that the GT3-R is more heavily modified (deviates more from the production car) than the GTS-R.
