New Honda Fit

Secret Chimp

Also the plate-holder says "Hybrid" on it. I'd imagine the standard car has a black grille instead of that gray plastic thing in the middle.

Garbage. Looks cheap and old.

And I hate that Honda apparently has an engine range called "Earth Dreams".

How does it look old?

Proportions I guess, I don't know. Just doesn't look like a car that just came out.

2o6

Here's a base non Hybrid, non RS model.

Dare I say it....it looks.....Chinese.

It gives off that almost, but not quite aura that most Chinese designs give off.

Even worse, I hear they're going to make a Sedan variant. Unless they make a new Honda City and share nothing whatsoever with the Fit hatchback stylistically, it is going to be one fucked up looking car.

ifcar

Well, the front end looks more like the City than the old Fit anyway, so it's easy enough to picture.

The Fit always struck me as a cheap car that sold for a comparatively high price.

While the styling is ugly-yet-acceptable, it's among the worst looking in its segment internationally. The Fiesta, Corsa, 207 and Polo all look far better. Even the Sonic looks better, IMO.

I'd say it's on par with the Rio hatch and the Yaris.

2o6

I think the Rio is one of the best looking subcompacts on sale, and the Yaris looks OK in SE trim. This fit is only outdone stylistically by the Versa sedan.

Ehh, the Rio is probably the only Kia that I'd say looks Asian-Generic at this point. Not impressed. The rest of the lineup (minus the Soul) looks spectacular, though.

I looks like a miniaturized CR-V. An ugly(er) one.

The days of the old double wishbone Hondas are long gone.

It turns out that the average buyer doesn't give a shit. Esp. when Porsche and BMW get away with it on their top performance cars.

....maybe you're thinking about the old one?? There's not anything about this design that looks "asian-generic"

I would definitely call the old one asian generic....

New powertrains with better economy. Better hybrid system. New "Earth Dreams" motors.

Shame it looks so bad. The old car wasn't really good looking, but this one looks both cheaper and older than the current model. And worst of all, it looks cheaper and older than competitors in the class.

Also, there's no more flat floor, and the magic seats look like they've been dropped. Shame, a really nifty feature of the old car.

It just looks like you can just walk right up and push it over.

I think it looks alright but I'm just not a fan of the Fit at all...although I did think the magic seats were cool. Other than that, I'll pass and get a used something over a new Fit for the same $$.

Tave

Looks like the last-gen Civic. Not bad, better than the current model.

The days of clean lines and organic shapes are over I suppose. It does look busy and proportioned wierd, but I guess it could be worse.

I saw a modified first gen Fit the other day.  Lowered, exhaust, red badges, "RS" badge on the back.  If I didn't know better, I would have thought it were a stock Honda special edition.  The guy did a really good job with it.  Sure, it's rice, but for the first time, it actually looked decent.

I feel like the first gen Fit just came out a few years ago.  I remember, I was looking at one in 2008 and that was still the first gen.  Honda burns through model cycles, don't they?

By the time the first gen Fit arrived on these shores, it was already several years old in most markets.

The first generation Fit actually came out in 2001, but we (North America) didn't get it until 2006.  We basically only saw it at the very end of its life cycle.  Second gen came out in '07 and went on sale in the US in '08.

I know.  I just still think it's odd that they brought us a "new" car that was at the end of its model life and then replaced it almost immediately.

New Honda City, which is basically a Fit sedan.

Will likely get sent to the US; Honda's expanding the Fit lineup from just the hatchback to a sedan (City) and CUV (Vezel)

Tell Honda don't bother.  The Fit hatchback is brilliant but a sedan ruins everything that's good about it.  This thing is just another dishwater dull sedan from the Asia-Generic school of design.  Utterly pointless!

When did car companies forget how to style cars such that the rear wheels don't look disproportionately tiny?  That mid 90s Civic probably had 14" wheels (or possibly 13s), yet they don't look nearly as small or awkward as the 15"s on the Fit.

High belt lines make it so there's a lotttt of sheet metal between the wheel arch and the window. The super vast expanses make the wheels look stupidly small. And other reasons, I suppose, such as ride height and such.  And it also looks like they made the wheelbase as long as they could, shoving the rear wheels pretty far back.

Honda already has a dull, generic small sedan.  It's called the Civic.  The Fit hatchback a brilliant car.  Why ruin it with this thing?
