Interesting stuff. I always thought it was styled in the vein of the bike Steve McQueen rode in The Great Escape. Either way, it's so pretty, looks so cool, and isn't a super aggressive bike-from-the-future like a lot of sport bikes are. I mean, I understand why sport bikes look that way, but it's not really my style anymore.

Which was a 1962 Thunderbird Triumph, styled to somewhat superficially resemble a BMW R700 (which actually existed at that time, while the Triumphs would not have).

Most of the bikes in the movie were Triumphs actually, at McQueen's request.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Part of it was at McQueen's request.  The other part was that a period-correct BMW didn't have the power/weight ratio of the newer Triumphs and would not have been capable of completing the famous barbed wire fence jump stunt.

Yes, but any number of different modern bikes could have. That they ended up being Triumphs was probably MCQueen's doing.

Gotta admire Buell's perseverance. I hope some shit up there gets aligned and Buell bikes stick around this time.420 pounds wet with 185 hp v-twin? That'd do some serious damage to the ducati/bmw/augusta's of the world.
