Toyota FT-1, new supra?

Yeah, with only 220 hp, you might as well just buy a BRZ.

I was thinking of the taillights.  I don't dispute how others view it but it does look like George Barris might've had a hand in the design.

I can see that, perhaps. Maybe more along the lines of Ed Roth, but okay.

Whatever, I'm open right now to a little outlandishness in car design. I think things have gotten way too conservative, way too safe over the past few years.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

At least it's black. Better than that silly bright blue the BRZ is always painted.

I thought the original Supra had 280-300-hp?

The MkIV Supra (the most desirable in the view of most people, and the last one produced) came in two flavors.  A naturally aspirated version with 220hp (later upgraded to 225) and a turbo version with 320hp.

Just goes to show you how far--or not far--that Toyota has come that this concept also only has 220 horsepower, albeit it from an tri-supercharged inline-3 diesel mated to a CVT transmission.

220 hp simply isn't enough. And I don't want to see any of this F/I stuff, which Toyota have done an excellent job at rejecting (and the Japanese Big 3 in general).

MrH

:wtf: What happened to this thread?  Toyota said this concept was supposedly going to have 450+ hp.  Not sure where this 220 hp idea came from.

I stopped reading the jalopnik article when they started fisting the tail pipes.

More proof that the rear-end looks like a horses ass .

With only 220 hp 4" tailpipes seems a bit like overkill.

I could see 3" pipes for 220 hp, but that is the limit before the exhaust velocity approaches near zero.

I guess it's a way to meet mileage standards, but no one is gonna buy a 220 hp car that looks like that.

The 220HP is due to that new Chinese tax law. To broaden the appeal, Toyota doesn't want to make the engine bigger than 1.8 liters so it fits in a more competitive tax bracket.

Rupert

Well that makes sense. They should have a 300 hp version, though.

I just drove the FT-1 (turbo) on Gran Turismo 6. It is quite a good car to drive, but lacks cupholders.

Hey, 220 hp sounds great to me. But only if it has around 159 ft lb of torque.

Rich

I think this thing would have been really fun if they gave it about another 20hp or so.

I've heard that an intake and exhaust upgrade will give about 15hp each though.  So all is not lost.

ECU flash will probably give another 50 hp and get it to 300 hp!

9 second 1/4 mile here I come.

I hear the weight specs are going to change. Ford has cornered the market on aluminum for the new F-150. The block of the new toyota will be iron and the body will be lead.

A sheet lead body should provide very reasonable crumple zones, and should be easy to repair with a torch.

If new supra, want.

The supra was actually the car that got me interested....in cars.

That's awesome! Do we know when we'll see a supra on sale?

I can finally use some of the tools my grandfather used to fix dents with lead. Before I was just making lead goblets for drinking at the house with them.

I like it much more in this more subdued color. Can't wait to see what BMW will bring out on this shared platform.
